In conjunction with NASSM 2014 in the Poconos, the Pedal and Paddle event on Friday, June 20th will give participants to experience the beauty of the Delaware River up close. Edge of The Woods Outfitters has put together two fantastic packages for us. If you think you would like to take a little time off from driving for a relaxing ride along the river on Friday, visit this web page to learn more about it.

I want to participate in this offering but already signed up for the drive to Bethel Woods on Friday. I was hoping to do a peddle and paddle on Saturday.

I guess I could sign up for the Friday peddle and paddle and do the run up to Bethel Woods solo on Saturday.

I'm posting this description of the McDade Bike Trail in case you'd like to know the terrain and/or level of difficulty you may encounter. Please note that one section has been closed to biking.

Lar Bear, I changed your Solpalooza Skywinder run schedule to the 2nd group (9:15am) on Saturday. Have fun on Friday!

Thanks, solli4me. As you might imagine, the river trips get quite busy on the weekend in the heart of the summer and it would not have been possible to put together our group outing on Saturday. Pedal and Paddle reservations are rolling and floating in!

Thanks Solli for making the adjustment on my Bethel run. I just signed up for the Pedal & Paddle for Friday. I have my wife almost signed up for the WE. She, as I mentioned before, isn't a Kappa Lover yet but looks like she is gonna give going to this meet with me a shot. If she bails my brother will go down with me.

The run up to Bethel Satruday will work but I want to spend some time at the museum so I may depart from the run once we get to Bethel and drive back solo. I want to be back to the Inn for the Car Show.

Lar Bear, just so you know, we plan to spend at least an hour at the museum.

That will then work for me and we can drive back with the rest of the Kappas. Do you think we'll be back in time for the Car Show? Hope so.

We may be changing the car show time to accommodate the peeps who are running around the Poconos. So many fun things to do and see, so little time! :willy:

There is certainly no rush, but I thought I'd let you know that we have already met the minimum for the biking portion of the event and are only 4 shy of the canoeing minimum. The colder it gets in Iowa as we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas, the more I look forward to fun in the Poconos in June.

We set this up on Friday realizing it is a direct conflict with the Poconos Raceway event figuring that those looking for a lazy ride down the river may not be the ones looking for a fast ride around a track. If it happens that your spouse is more of the lazy river type and you are looking forward to the race track, rest assured that Edge of the Woods Outfitters will take good care of him or her for the day. There are 6 inches of snow on the ground in Des Moines and it is windy and 21°. I thought I'd let you know that we met the minimums for both the pedal and paddle parts of the event six months before it happens. I can't wait to get to the Poconos!

Pedal and Paddle Event

Here's a brief recap of the Pedal and Paddle Event for those who want a quiet break from driving or need something to do while their partner is off to the race track for the day.

Biking along the Delaware River starts at 9:30am on Friday when our outfitter will pick us up at the Bushkill Resort and ends with lunch at the beach at noon.

You may want to skip the biking and start with lunch. (It is about an hour's drive to the track, so you could visit the track as a spectator in the morning.) You will get picked up at Bushkill at 11:30 to join the bikers for lunch on the beach before the leisurely 6-mile ride down the river. You will be returned to the Bushkill Resort by 4:30pm.

The total cost for the day including transportation, bikes, helmets canoes, kayaks, and the picnic lunch is $75. Or you can skip the biking portion and the cost drops to $50.

This event is being put on by Edge of the Woods Outfitters. Details are available on the web page I have set up. You may contact me or Edge of the Woods Outfitters using the links on the page if you have any questions. Payment in advance is not required, but we would like to get an estimated count ahead of time.
