Branson, MO has been batted around, but the date (Summer Solstice) just did not fit do to the influx of tourists from all over the USA and the well documented traffic problems there.

Good Luck!

In case you were wondering, Kansas City to Nashville to Las Vegas to Denver to Canton to Austin to Asheville to Flagstaff to Bushkill to Portland to Springfield would be 15,887 miles and would take 229 hours. Of course, you'd want to take the long way home.

Hi everyone this is roofer I do not post a lot but was wondering about doing the 2016 Nassm in Springfield Mo. So what do you all think.
A very wise man gave me inspiration when I planned the first national event in Kansas City MO......he said "Plan it and they will come."

If you feel that this area offers good hotels that can handle upwards of 100-150 rooms as a decent price, a space large enough to host a banquet for up to 300 people, a spacious parking lot for all Kappas to park together, and enough good roads with twisties that are nearby...then by all means, put something together. Be prepared for lots of work and lots of driving to test out possibly runs.

Lots of good roads, but if I remember correctly, they aren't nearby. (grew up in Springfield....my oh my how it's changed!)

Springfield sounds cool, but I don't want any part of Branson. I've got enough headaches without the Yakov Smirnov crowd. If y'all want to string it together, we'll try and make it.

First of all the hotel I've been talking to has bus tours to Branson with tickets for 4 different shows so that we will not have to drive there. So the traffic will not be a problem if we choose.

I think Madison, Wisconsin would be a better choice.
:jm2c:
With all the traffic there? No thanks. There are some great places in WI but the best are either near the Dells, no way during the tourist season, or southwest corner near the Mississippi bluffs, but in that area not large enough accommodations to host a very large group.

I couldn't agree more...and roads in MO aren't nearly as nice as WI Dells area!

Madison gets busy during rush hour (what city doesn't?) And its not that far from the interesting roads, less than 1/2 hr from the west side. The SW corner has Dubuque IA, plenty of accommodations. Real close to the interesting roads. But further away from other attractions. Point being every location will have its give and take.

Are you volunteering to organize?

I wouldn't do Branson due to the logistical issues associated with moving around (numerous) groups of cars. Springfield is a bit too far north/west of the good twisties. However, if there is somewhere around Beaver Lake or on the far side of Table Rock Lake from Branson, I think southern Missouri / northwest Arkansas would be great (assuming we can find the necessary lodging). It's centrally located and not overly far from a number of large metro areas. I used a 500 miles radius - the distance from home to Bushkill and the same distance I travel to go see my daughter (a full day, but not an exhaustingly full day). In that radius are - St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Birmingham, Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, Indianapolis, New Orleans, the edge of Chicago, Little Rock, Springfields (several), Heber Springs (which is key), and many others. There are great twisties, great scenic drives, and numerous nearby attractions if you are inclined to get out and explore. And it's "home" for me. So if SolNut will get onboard and be eyes on the ground, AND we can get a couple more key people involved, then Karen (Twitchy) and I would be willing take take the point on seeing if this is a feasible location and, if so, running with it.

Several of us helped organize 09 and own Sky's.

Springfield or that area is close enough so we could attend, much further east or south and you will lose a lot of potential attendees.

And the rumor I hear is that no NASSM has ever been run by a Sky owner. Maybe it's time one steps up....
That's no rumor!! That's a fact!

Although, several have assisted the organizers in various jobs.

ok...just asking...and I really mean JUST ASKING
for those who know the roads..

are there towns in the YOOP big enough to hold a NASSM?

I know it would draw a lot of EOM's (East of Mississippi) and CDN's too
