battery

So I started my sol and it seemed like it wasn't turning over as fast as it should so I test the battery and it's at 12.05 volts. Should be 12.6 ish volts. Put my load tester on it and the battery is bad. I have to remove the passenger side front fender to get to the battery. What idiot at GM thought that was a good idea. If I didn't have the knowledge and tools to replace it myself I'd have to pay a shop to replace it. The obvious place for the battery is in the trunk and I'm going to relocate it there at some point. Arrg

@JohnWR I know this is a dumb question but what does NASSAM mean? Is it sponsored by the company that owns the forum or is it put together by forum members.
Maybe I can answer part o your question. It means North American Solstice and Sky Annual Meet. This year's the 18th edition. As far as I know it is put together by Sky and Solstice owners, many of them are also forum members. In the past there was a formal owners' association that put together the events, the association is dissolved but the event carries on.

Ok, can members bring non solstice/sky sport cars and participate in all the different events. Like if you're lucky enough to own a Shelby AC Cobra can you bring it.

Good question. I'm not sure. You could ask this in the NASSAM 2023 thread over here:

There's a old story about Carroll Shelby giving Bill Cosby a AC Cobra. The story as told by Bill Cosby is hilarious.

NASSAM = North American Solstice Sky Annual Meet is not actually owned by anyone. It was started the year the Solstice was introduced and has been held every year (except one) during the week of the Summer Solstice. It was originally organized by a group called NASSOA = North American Solstice Sky Owners Association but is organized in an ad hoc arrangement by a (usually) different group each year. The process is not really formal, and has gotten messy at times, but mostly works pretty well. The meet roughly moves back and forth from East to West in alternate years with the 24 meet will be in Wisconsin, and 25 in Taos. It isn't even necessarily forum members, as most of the recent organizers aren't regular forum contributors, and Wisconsin was decided and organized completely off of the forum.

It is a model-specific meet and while other makes or models are usually not specifically prohibited they also are not particularly welcomed. Taking a different car would be like attending the family reunion of a family that you are not a part of and I, personally, would consider it to be in bad taste, if nothing else.

200MPH is one of the best comedic routines ever performed, if you are a car person.

Thanks John, I was just curious. I don't have a sports car besides my sol so it was a purely acidemic question. Never crashed a family reunion but my second wife and I did crash a couple wedding's. Debbie loved wedding's. I think it a girl thing. Lol My favorite was a big wedding, around 150 people, the ceremony was at st. Paul's in Boise which is a big old Catholic church. The bride and groom arrived in a horse draw carriage. The choir was singing before the ceremony, it was a beautiful wedding. Anyway after the ceremony Debbie asked someone where the party was being held, said she forgot our invitation. So we're at the party mingling and joined the receiving line to congradulate the couple and I could tell the groom didn't recognize us but he didn't say anything. Debbie and I had a great time, there was a live band, free booze and catered food. We did bring a present so I think that made up for the food and drinks we had. 🤣

On our way to rehab, I have a bad feeling about this. When I first started skydiving we were taught how to pack our own chutes and on the third or fourth packing I forgot to push the slider all the way up to the chute, it's a rectangular piece of nylon that fits over the four groups of risers(risers are the strings that connects the chute to the harness) the slider hold the risers partially closed as the chute is opening and slides down relatively slow to just above your head allowing the chute to slowly open. By not pushing the slider up the chute opened too fast and caused a really hard jerk. I ended up with two herniated disc's in my neck and had to go to physical therapy, it was pure torture. They strapped me into a contraption that held my body still and pulled my head and neck to decompress the discs and supposedly would provide some extra blood flow to the injured discs promoting faster healing. I don't know if it helped anything but it hurt like hell. A month later I was back jumping again against the physical therapist advice. still have some stiffness and low grade pain sometimes if I'm holding my head in a awkward position. The moral of the story, double check everything when packing a chute.

I went through this on a much milder scale a few years ago. I now am proud owner or 3 stints. I luckily avoided open surgery! Prayers for fast healing and continued good health my friend.

Rehab was easy, all I did was walk slowly on a treadmill while hooked up to a heart monitor. I have to keep my heart rate below 80 BPM. So basically walk slowly which is about as fast as I can walk anyway. Asked the therapist what else I'll be doing, he said basically the same thing until sometime in the future they'll have me running. Told him I would figure it out myself and cancelled my appointment's. Stopped at the drugstore and got a heart rate monitor that goes on my wrist. $14 and I don't have to go to the hospital twice a week to do what I'm already doing. That's what sidewalks are for.

G-Ram is one of my many Navy nicknames. First was Rambo (I was in shortly after the First Blood movie), then Z-man (last name is Ramsey) and G-Ram.

Do you think they would let you take a Solstice to a cobra event?? This is a national Solstice/Sky event.

I'll tell you some time about ending up at the BMW Z Roadster Homecoming at the BMW plant in Simpsonville, SC...in the 1995 Roadmaster Limited woody wagon. They not only welcomed me in but gave me front row parking. I was merely going to turn around, avoiding the parking lot I-85 had turned into because of an accident. Going through the museum was a real treat. The BMW motorcycle a late Florida MSF instructor, Ed Culbertson, had done the Darién Gap with was on display from his family. I was offered food and drink but had to get back on the road. A good memory and the wagon got as many admiring looks as the hottest roadsters. We all have something to share.

Yeah, the Cobra would steal all the thunder. There's a guy in Boise that has a original 427 ci Cobra. He goes to a lot of local car shows and that car always draws a crowd. Especially when he fires it up. Most people see a Cobra and they know it's something special. The four into one side pipes, single seat roll bar, wood trimmed steering wheel, lots of analog gauge's. It's a truly iconic muscle car.
Imagine a big block Solstice/sky with side pipes, reworked brushed aluminum dash with a full set of gauges, gated shifter, chrome wire wheels. I'm getting a stiffy just thinking about it.

While Cobras are something special, on the other hand they have been imitated by everyone and their neighbor. I still think it's a pure pistonhead's car but the Solstice is kind of that same formula, only refined to the '00s. Especially the GXP.

The 'dream' Solstice you mentioned has been done in some variations. I'm not sure anybody ever did one with side exit pipes but there are several V8 conversions. Including the famous PunisheR by @rob the elder, @cammerjeff's conversion and @ConeHugger01's sky, and other's I'm not remembering now off the top of my head.
You're right, tons of replica cobra's on the road. Side pipes on a solstice would be hard to do unless you went with Lambo doors which I don't really like, not enough room on the rocker panels. You could raise the door sills and cut the doors to match. It would definitely look cool without changing the original lines too much

What about fender exit pipes? :ROFLMAO:

Fender exit would be more difficult on a sol. On the driver's side you would have to figure out a new windshield washer set-up and insulate or possibly relocate the ECM and TCM so they don't get baked. Not impossible to do but not easy
