wow, that's crazy. My 74 Camaro burned in about 84 on the side of the road but my wifes Ford van cought on fire in the grocery store parking lot and we were parked close to the front. luckily no cars were around and the fire just took out the front. That Solstice looked like my camaro and all I could do was watch the tires pop. sucks for sure.

So the big question is: what caused the fire? Was the car modified in any way? Is this another faulty clock spring? (probably not, as it was an '08)

Should I start being worried when ever I take my sol out? This sounds like a freak accident but still scary.

Has happened before. Search the forum. My swag would be the contact recently discussed here to the blower motor. The fire was mainly in the interior, so it probably started there, and he did check under the hood. If there are no electrical mods, GMService may want to contact the guy and postmortem the Sol.

Does anyone know these people? They are in DDM's backyard.

It would be very interesting to know how this one happened. I remember when Nittany caught on fire and the factory rebuilt it.

Thanks for the reminder, it's been 7 years now that I've spent "getting-around-to" mounting a fire extinguisher to the front of my Sol's driver seat.

It would have been a piece of cake but I forgot to remove the extinguishers and brackets from my last 3 vehicles that were sold or totalled! :willy:

The weekend we had our Skylands Rally (2007 or 2008) a solstice was burning up on Route 80 just down the street from our hotel Mt. Arlington, NJ. I was worried it was someone in our group. Tried to get more info to no avail.

I was in Home Depot paying for a fire extinguisher at the same time Dan's solstice was on fire.
