This past weekend, I learned that my dealer had been feeding me a line for the past month. When I ordered my Solstice back in May, over the phone, my dealer assured me he had two cars left in his initial allocation of 12, and that my order would be one of those remaining two. In the month since, he has dodged my repeated questions about this issue, until I was forced to take a road trip to confront him in person. At which point, I learned that my order was NOT part of his initial allocation after all. In fact, the dealership had already taken over 20 orders before mine. Yet, despite having an initial allocation of only 12, he had no compuction about telling me he still had cars left from his initial allocation at the time I ordered. When I asked him why he told me he had two cars left when clearly he didn't, he played the hapless dealer and told me that's what he thought at the time!
Unfortunately, there is little I can do now, having let a month pass without looking for an available Solstice elsewhere. At this point, if I take my order to another dealership I'll simply be further down another list.
Why is it that so many dealers, with the exception of the praiseworthy ones who have made valuable contributions to this forum, seem to have so little scruples about how they conduct business? It just makes one repulsed to have to do business with them.
I'd love to post the dealership's name, in case anyone else is currently being duped by this same dealer and under the impression they have a first allocation car when they don't, but I won't b/c of forum rules. Let's just say I travelled to West Palm Beach this weekend to pay him a visit.
