I've read all the threads on here concerning hardwiring a radar detector and it seems clear to me that I cannot just splice in a telephone cord from the rearview mirror.

What I have:
1)07 Solstice Plain review mirror just map lights (3 wires)
2)Escort 8500 with smart wire

What I want:
I just want to remove my smart cord and provide power simply at the rear view mirror, like I did on my 04 Impala.

I don't want to open my dash or pull and plastic pieces off, i never seem to put it back the right way.

I understand that there isn't a typical ground its variable based on the doors opening and closing, but there is a constant 14 volts on one of the lines(Blue? trying to remember).

Can I just connect one of the bolts on the Convertible loop?

Your 14V wire (Blue/White stripe) is always on, and is there to supply the map lights +ve. You can use that to power your detector and, yes, just attach a ground wire to the windshield frame.

BUT, be aware your detector will ALWAYS be powered-on when connected. If you forget and leave it in your car, it could drain the battery.
