Funny (mostly). Thanks for posting that.

Forums is the English form, fora is the Latin. Since every other word in the sentence is English .....

Yeah, 'fora' is priggish student English but is considered archaic. I've seen it more in scientific papers and such. There are other words derived from Latin that are similar - memorandum for instance. I get a trifle irked when I see 'data' used to include a singular, which should be 'datum' but that is probably my scientific background to blame for that. Plus my legal training made many forms of words that would be archaic or 'wrong' to most, just everyday usage to me. 'Seriatim, for instance, seems handier than 'serially', which seems awkward to my ear.

Fungi seems easier than either funguses or using fungus as a plural, and the same with bacterium/bacteria, but people seem just fine with octopus/octopi. Funny how some are accepted and some aren't.

Some of it, and I think your examples support this, is down to whether something is (at least peripherially) scientific. Fungi and octopi seem to fit this.

On the other hand, most of it is probably driven by ease of use. Octopuses and funguses are both cumbersome because the singular forms end in "s".

I have never even seen "seriatim" before. Now I'll have to try to remember to use it somewhere.
