MY 06 leaks a little above the rear view mirror and compared to my 08, it takes very little effort to close the latch. I inspected the hook for wear and it looks fine. However, I did notice that of you put the latch in the locked position without the top being shut you can pull on the hook in an outwards position and it moves about 3/8 of an inch. I tried it on the 08 and it doesn't move at all. the one on the 06 feels as if there's a spring holding it back but again, not a very strong one. Is there an internal adjustment for it and is there actually a spring in there keeping it tight?

The 06 is a type 1 top while the 08 is likely a tope 3 top. There are mechanical differences among the three types of tops.

The latch consistes of several parts which can wear. I would pull it apart and inspect the fit inside the mechanism.

No better drawings of the locking mechanism huh... Oh well. Ok, I'll pull the front panel off and see if I can figure it out. I've seen a lot of posts on top problems but usually it's weather stripping, door glass or the trunk area problems. I'll take some photo's and post the fix if I don't end up getting too midevil on it's ass:)
