The Detroit Ride & Drive is being held at the St John's Golf & Conference center in Plymouth. It is off M14 and Sheldon Rd.
They are supposed to be there until Thursday. It starts at around 8:00 A:M and is supposed to go until 3:00 P:M. It is for salesman training.
They each have a booklet with info on the Soltice and Torrent. The track for the Torrent is around the front. There are also training seminars inside the conference center. They are on a strict schedule so they all get a chance to participate in all the training sessions. There is also a tent that has three Solstice. One has the new chrome wheel option on it. Colour Mysterious. There is also a plasma screen to display a DVD , some brake parts and promotion material. I think they were talking about technical aspects and the options that will be offered. I will try to upload the option brochure.
The Solstice vehicles are in the parking lot in the back.
There is a Sly and Pure on the road track along with a Honda S2000 and a Miata. There are several more to the side that are used for about a half hour ride on the city roads and they are escorted by a police car. Colours are:
Deep,Envious,Mysterious,Cool and Aggressive. Some have the two tone interior, some have solid black leather and others the cloth.
The rims were all polished.
The pictures don't do these cars justice. You have to see them in person.
The track has pylons and some rumble strips . There is about a 100 ft straight section to start off and then a stop sign. The guy tells the drivers to punch it and then hammer the brakes at the stop sign. Most people drove it in first gear to the stop sign and made a quick stop. The Solstice accelerated very quickly, sounded real good and made a good stop.
They demonstrate top by comparing it to how long it takes to put the Honda power top down. The Solstice top went down very easy and quickly.
They then show that you can bring a weekend golf bag in the trunk and if you leave the top up, you can bring a second weekend bag.
I'm sorry I don't know where the tour is headed next but the people that are putting on the event do not work for Pontiac but they are wearing Pontiac clothing.
The only new thing I picked up on was when some people complained about getting at the seat belt on the Solstice, the guy said they were going to put some kind of a guide in for the belt. Maybe it will be something like they have on a Cavalier attached to the head rest.
I can't upload the image because the PDF is 256 kb and my upload limit is 200. I tried Putfile but it doesn't accept PDF. I tried to zip it but it is still over 200 kb. Does someone have a solution?
The page lists the accessories available, the Part #'s but no prices.

Great pics, I really appreciate the pictures of the cloth interior, these are the best I have seen so far. I bought the mysterious with cloth and have really been second guessing myself, but after seeing these I feel alot better. Thanks again.
I'd like to add that yes it is hard to get the seatbelt out of the side. It contracts down between the seat and the body and for a moderately broad shouldered guy like me it was a hassle
That's the most detailed shot yet of the cloth interior. You can actually see the pattern. I'm telling you, if they offered Steel Blue (ala Windveil Blue on Mustang) I would at my Pontiac dealer right now. This car just gets better looking with every new angle.
I think I've mentioned this before, but is it just me or is the cloth interior Charcoal color and the black leather interior Black. Look at the interior pics in the Gallery and it appears that they are different.
I'm not talking about the cloth, I'm talking about the armrest and storage area. It could just be the pics, but maybe GWN or any of the other Ride and Driver's can answer this one.

I was thinking the same thing, and it looks to me like the dash colour of the cloth car and the black leather car are the same.
The only difference I remember are the seats are black with that off white stiching.

Her's a quick pic comparison. Keep in mind that lighting and camera quality could also be playing tricks on me here. It seems to me that the cloth would be the same as the black leather, but I just want to make sure.
GWN thanks for the comments, I am reassured. You say you sat in one, how tall are you, I am 6'0'' and 230 lbs.. Do ya think I'll fit? Also did you see the interior on any Mysterious, I was just wondering with the cloth what colors the dash and arm rests are, solid black? Mixture of gray and black? Thanks again for the pics and info.

hehehe good to know when we can stop hacking the URL to get to the Solstice accessories and get to them normally. Hopefully the images all work by then too.

5" 7" 155 lbs . There were some pretty big salesman taking the Solstice out.
They had a bit of a problem getting in and out but they all seemed to fit OK.
Some of them would have had a problem in the Miata if the top was up.
The Mysterious was in the group going for a road trip so the top was up and I didn't really look inside in great detail.
The cars are probably parked at the course parking lot overnight if anybody
in the Detroit area wants to go see. I can't see them transporting all the cars for storage overnight. I know they arrived on Sunday because they spent the day setting everything up.
GWN -- Thanks for the info!! I am in the area and have seen all but red and white on the road. Now's my chance to see red in person -- guess I'm gonna take a loooonnnnnnggggggg lunch! :yesnod:

Car with chrome wheels is new. All other cars are the same as in Ohio. Track sounds about the same. Ohio was straight blast to sudden stop, 180 degrees then though some s-curves, 180 degrees again, more s-curves, 180 degrees again and a straight way. Seat belt is a pain, and so it adjusting the seat tilt. It has a big knob that you have to turn. It's located at the pivot point on the side of the seat. I found 2 ways to adjust it, either get out, or slide the seat forward, then make the tilt adjustment, then get back in or put the seat back. Otherwise it's very hard to squeeze your hand in to turn the knob. In your fifth picture, the guy in the backgound with the hat, black shirt opened exposing a white t-shirt.... that's the CCC (Closed Course Captain) I spoke about in my review who took my wife for a ride. He has a British accent. He seems to have the knowledge from what I saw. He should know where they are headed next.
Not to nit pick but I believe his accent was Australian. At least thats how it came off to me when I saw and listened to him at the Pittsburgh ride and drive. Very funny and informative fellow.
