I know there are a couple other people in the same boat as me, but who exactly is going into a completely different market? Especially if you are getting this as a daily driver. I pulled out my manual for my 1988 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL today to check out the exact specs and pin them against my new ride. I'm going to have to learn how to drive all over again. :willy:

-------------Solstice/420SEL / Difference
-----Length: 157.2"/208.1" / 50.9" (over FOUR FEET!)
------Width: 71.3"/71.7" / 0.4" (This made me happy)
-----Height: 50.1"/56.7" / 6.6" (Expected and not too bad)
Wheel Base: 95.1"/121.1" / 26.0" (Consider length... this is not bad)
Front Track: 60.7"/61.2" / 0.5" (So close)
-Rear Track: 61.4"/60.1" / -1.3" (The only thing bigger on the Sol)

The Mercedes also weights about 60% more... but man, is it a smooth ride.

The most amazing figure in this chart is the length vs. width. The Solstice is... wide... to say the least. And although the wheelbase is 2 feet shorter, that's impressive considering it's more than 4 feet shorter in overall length.

I'll be going from a 2003 Trailblazer, 90 4WD Silverado, and a 65 Malibu convertible. I alternate form one to the other, although I now drive the pickup less than the other two. So, it will be a pretty significant change.

Going from a 97 Sunfire SE Coupe to the Solstice shouldn't be too much of a difference:

-------------Solstice/Sunfire SE Coupe/ Difference
-----Length: 157.2"/181.9" / 24.7" (over 2 FEET!)
------Width: 71.3"/67.4" / -3.9" (Gonna have to rethink some of my tighter roads)
-----Height: 50.1"/53.2" / 3.1" (Should be cool)
Wheel Base: 95.1"/104.1" / 9.0"

I'm going from a 95 Saturn SL2 that leaks power steering fluid, burns oil, blown struts, and not sure what is louder the way it rattles or the radio. On the flip side it does have 160,000 miles and my biggest repair that I needed to do was the alternator.

I'm getting the Sol as my daily driver, so my driving experience will be a bit different. Practicality went out the window and I LOVE IT.

My daily driver is (and for the most part will be) a '01 Silverado

---------------Solstice/Silverado / Difference
--------Length: 157.2"/203.1" / 45.9" (almost four ft.)
---------Width: 71.3"/78.5" / 7.2" (not so wide, eh?)
--------Height: 50.1"/71.2" / 21.1" (how do you get in there?)
---Wheel Base: 95.1"/119.0" / 23.9"
---Front Track: 60.7"/65.0" / 4.3"
----Rear Track: 61.4"/66.0" / 4.6"
-Ground Clear: 3.6"/8.0" / 4.4" (my only real concern :willy: )
--------Weight: 2860-lb/6100-lb / 3240-lb (at half the weight, maybe I should get two  )

This will take some getting used to, a job I'm happy start - pronto!

Torque......166 [email protected] lbs-ft @ 2800.....189 lbs-ft (You mean I won't be able to stand still and spin the tires thru all the gears? Bah, at least I'll look damn good..)

So...the Firebird has a shorter body with less headroom...I'll be damned. :skep:

I'll probably drive it into the ground, same as before...I'm guessing my (350cu/2bbl) 0-60 was about 7 sec or so...the 400 cu Firebird ran at about 6.5 sec with 430lbsft/335hp.

Cargo length-147.8 could almost squeeze the Sol in there-width is a bit of an issue, only 50", dang!

Can't wait to be flying low again

Current ride is '99 Buick Regal, auto. Prior to that a '91 Buick regal, auto. I've owned and used as a daily driver two MGB's. So, I anticipate no problem with the trans. However, I'm curious about the change back to RWD. I don't know how much of a change to expect, not that it would make a difference.

New Balance 841, size 12 as I currently walk to work 2 km. (Columbia boots in winter.)

When I get my car I will drive on really nice days or if I have to go out of the office. Haven't decided about rainy days. (I know it's a Pontiac.) OK I decided I'm driving when it rains. ;)

Going from a 1999 Porsche Boxster to the Solstice. No worries mate....
Thats funny..I was going to buy a used Boxster..around $22K would get me a 1999-2001. The wife could not understand me spending that much on a "USED" car. I tried explaining it wasnt a car..rather it was a Porsche. She just didnt get it. But showed her the Solstice and POOF...shes in love too. I'm sure the difference in maintenance alone will prove it was a wise decision.

-----------Solstice...... '00 ZX2 S/R.... Difference

Weight........2860 lbs...........2,478 lbs................... +382 lbs

As mentioned by others, even though I'm loosing 18" of length I'm actually only loosing 3.3" inches of wheel base. Even though it's shown as a 34HP increase, it's realisticly even more then that for me here in FL. In hot weather the IAT sensor on the ZX2 is one of the worst I've ever encountered on a car. If the outside air even gets slitly warm for FL (in otherwords anytime but the winter) it pulls the timing massively. It's horrible.

Years ago, I remember cruising in a friends '68 fastback Ford Galaxie 500 in the middle lane on the freeway just as a brand new Del Sol came up in the fast lane....it was about as long as the Galaxies hood!
