I have a base 2.4 Solstice. The previous owner said that the engine in the car is not original. I'm trying to find out what year the engine was manufactured. Where is the date code on the engine block located?

It is my understanding that the 2.4 Ecotecs built in 2006 or prior have forged internals. Is this correct?

I can't help you with IDing the year of your engine, But I understand it was 2007 and older 2.4's received the forged internal parts.

They tell me the only real advantage of the Forged internal parts is the HP level you can safely reach if you add a Turbo or Supercharger to the 2.4's. With the forged parts you can safely go over 300 hp. Without them not so much.

Any comment on the advantages or disadvantages of having forged internal parts?
Forged iternals can handle more power, but do not benefit an unmodified engine.

Edit: Or what Jeff said.

Hi Marksbug, I believe it is only the rods.

Engine ID tag is located on the front of the valve cover and on the oil bowl for the LE5

It should look like this

Here's how to read it.

• Barcode (1)

• Sequence Number (2)

• Day (3)

• Month (4)

• Year (5)

• Engine Assembly Plant (6)

• Broadcast Code (7)

• Part Designation (8)

• Engine Assembly Number (9)

• Broadcast Code (10)

I know that the rods are forged and that the pistons are not.
