While searching for low-mileage Solstice's to post, I've begin to notice that low priced Solstices are starting to be advertised. This is generally due to three reasons; high-mileage, salvage rebuilds, or ones that have been poorly maintained. So I'm going to begin posting some of them when I come across them on Craigslist, just be aware that I may not post them that often, and will try to stick to Solstice's priced around five thousand. Also, if you see something that you may be interested in buying then it would be a good idea to use as many research resources available BEFORE buying.

Always run more than one VIN checking service, and be always be wary of stated mileage. And remember the saying; Buy At Your Own Risk because All Sales Are Final.

When looking at older, abused Kappas, where does one check first for rust? Is there a consensus on where the rot starts on our cars yet? For example, on other cars that I like, depending on model, I know to check the engine cradle, quarter panels, rear box sections, rocker panels, or strut mounts on the first pass to quickly eliminate the stinkers.

Good question, but I have yet to read any posting regarding Kappa's rust prone areas. The only rust comments I've read are underbody rust or rusty bolts, etc. Where do Kappa's rust, or Kappa prone areas would be a good idea for a new thread, because sooner or later certain areas of the body will begin to rust.

But what I'd be wondering about on these cheaper cars is could they be flood damage cars, or unadvertised salvage vehicles, or even had their mileage rolled back. Because just because most of them do have high mileage, that still doesn't mean an unscrupulous dealer couldn't roll the mileage back even more. What you need to know about dealer odometer fraud

Basically all the more reason to run multiple vehicle reports since it's been shown that is what on one report may not be on another.

These are a couple to several hundred over my $5K cutoff price, but still are the cheapest Sols on CL right now.

I dunno because it seems like insurance companies are quick to total repairable Solstice's, and I'd want to see pics of the damage before I'd consider one. OTOH, if I was looking for a candidate for an engine conversion than the lower price of a totaled car might be worth considering.

I bought one, and it only had two small cracks on the hood bracket. That is what constituted frame damage. I bought it for 2000 dollars. It also had a blown engine, so I replaced everything from the windshield forward. Some of it could have been saved, but I did not want to deal with it. I put about 6500 in the car, and it drives like a new one. No rattles, actually is quieter than my pampered one with 30K on it.

I bought it in August, finished it shortly after Thanksgiving. Pictures on this site.

I doubt I would buy one that was completed. I wanted to see the damage.

Most are totaled because the owner wants them gone. Parts are getting more expensive so the value is going down. A serious frontal crash is going to total the car no question.

500 for a fender
1000 for a hood
500 for all the bracing.
500 for headlights
3000 in body work and paint. It does not take much else to end the car.

Now if you replace with used parts and know a body guy, you can make out on them

Hoosier GXP would be the guy to ask on this. He has redone 20 plus of these. He must be making some money on them I would guess
