Hey guys. This is my first post out here. I have owned my GXP for almost 4 years and it is almost paid for. I am looking to add a little sound to the exhaust and I didn't really want to spend $800 bucks. Just wanted to ask if anyone has ever tried or heard what a flowmaster 80 series would sound like on this car. They make a camaro replacement (model 842583) that will fit perfectly where the stock muffler is with room to spare. My mechanic says he can bend a pipe to extend the existing outlet that goes in the stock muffler to go into the end of this one and then just come out with the stock outlet pipes. I am just worried it will sound like a tin can. I know I can buy the Solo Mach but I am really not looking for performance. I don't race the car. Just want a little more growl than the stock. I can do the whole thing for less than $300. What do you guys think? Thanks

Howdy,
Nice to finally meet you.

There are a couple of posts from 3 or 4 years ago about adding a flow master. If you google search the subject and solstice forum they will probably come up.

My recollection is that the person making the install liked the end result.

Well I am interested and may do this as well. I just finished research and from what I found, no, it will not sound like a tin can, it is said to have a good low rumble sound, consensus is that it sounds good. a couple say interior drone is noticeable, but it is unclear if they are talking about the 842583, those that have clearly this flowmaster setup on a GXP say there is no drone whatsoever. For sub $300 I think it would be worth it

Did you ever install your flowmaster? I am in the exact same boat you are in. I have 07 GXP and wanting to install flowmaster 80 series. Not wanting to spend big bucks for Solo. Not trying to gain a few horses. Just trying to make it sound louder, and not sound like a 20 year old kid who watched Fast and Furious too many times and stick a fart can on the back of a Honda Civic.

"07" GXP - Good Sound......No Drone

I've had the Flowmaster on for 4 years and it only gets better with age. The sound is mellow with no "Ricer" noise. I had it installed at a muffler shop so it could be welded for a no leak fit.

To the OP - none of the ehausts including the Solo give you any power benefit on an untuned engine anyway, and your desire for better sound is a perfectly reasonable one. The Flowmaster and Magnaflow products are both quite decent and a suitably selected replacement muffler should do it for you.

I will say that I don't think I have seen any exhaust product that I'd consider better quality than the Solo stuff. You might consider asking them about just buying a replacement muffler - I'll bet they would have one for you and even if it cost a tad more, that's the way I'd probably go. I have a complete Solo system on my coupe and they were top notch on solving my drone problem when I was the first to try a sport system on a coupe and discovered the drone we get (you vert owners are OK, it doesn't affect you)
