January 3, 1926: This was the day that the General Motors introduced a new make of car to the market. It was called the Pontiac ... and though not making new cars, Pontiac still lives on today, especially here in the Solstice Forum!

I always figured that when someone (or thing) dies you stopped celebrating birthdays....because they (it) weren't having any more of them, but it does seem that many people seem to cite dead people's birthdays as reason to celebrate, so why not?

well, as the Solstice is my 4th and 5th Pontiac, I owe them a shout out. Happy B-day Pontiac. besides, Dec 25th is basically a B-day and we still celebrate it so why not.

I have to agree with wspohn Pontiac is DEAD. I rather remind GM of the death of Pontiac instead.

Pontiac is not dead. We keep it alive everyday. Be pessimistic if you prefer but the chance exists that we will be joined by new models again someday.
You must have been hanging out on the Oldsmobile sites again.

Not saying that GM might not consider using the name again in the future if they thought it would make them some money, but before the crash, it wasn't doing that - quite the contrary. While the name appeals to a small community of enthusiasts, that won't be enough to get them to bring it back.

And after all, they are all the same cars anyway, no matter what badge you stick on the front of them - unless you are one of the willingly blind buyers that convinces themselves that having a Cadillac badge on the nose of a GMC truck makes it worth 30% more. Amazing what smoke, mirrors and advertising puffery can convince people to do.
