I had to buy a replacement bulb for the 06 and paid about $17 for it and got to looking around and I could have gotten a pair of Xenon blue 6000 or 8000k for about the same price. I like the daylight white or the cool white and am thinking of trying a pair for the 08. Ebay has a ton of plug and play H13 / 9008 in the blue for under $20 and I'm wondering if anyone else has went that route. I also see the conversion kits with the capacitor and all that but I don;t think I'm ready for that. eventually I do want to install a halo but for now, I'm just interested in the lights. What's up?

Alright TX. I put together all of the threads on HID/Halos/which lights are better posts that I’ve been involved in. There is plenty here on the forums. In the upper left corner of the forums is the Search function. It will search the forums first before it goes out on the web….. Check here first, what your looking for may have already been discussed in-depth. Or you can post it and we will try to answer your question. ;)

1.) DO NOT put HIDs in your car!

2.) The best, whitest bulb that lasts are the Sylvania ZXEs, all the ones on Ebay are crap!

3.) DON’T EVER buy parts off of Ebay for your car, they won’t fit or they will ruin other things, IE, headlight wiring. Most are garbage and won't last. Trust me, I've spent over $100 on headlights and finally gave up and went with the Sylvania ZXE. The Oracle were the best, but only lasted about a month. Which brings us to number 4.

4.) DO NOT use bulbs that require more then 55 watts! You WILL melt your headlight plugs and wiring.

5.) Nobody makes a HALO big enough for your current headlight. Some come close, but nobody makes one that will run the rim on the front of your headlights like all other cars. If you happen to find one, let me know! I've been looking for 6 months!

Just look up on Amazon, H13 ZXE.....

I went through everything I could think of and found all of the posts that I have commented on. I even posted pics in the Before/After link.

The cheap eBay ones are just that... cheap. They do not last long, or are not as bright as they claim, or both.

Any "blue" or "HID color" bulbs get that way by applying a blue-colored filter to the bulb. This cuts DOWN the yellow/orange light frequencies which comprise the majority of the light generated by the bulb and so actually reduces the light output. Brand-name bulbs try to overcome this by burning the filament brighter, reducing the life (just compare the Sylvania Extreme blue tinted lenses with regular Sylvania packages in an auto store, you see a bulb-life indicator printed on the back, with the blues being much lower). OK found an image (below).

Bottom line don't get cheap, get name brand. Even then, you won't get real HID color, just a closer approximation and you'll lose bulb life as a result. Good luck.

Ghost, thanks for posting all the links. I usually do a search before I do a new post but don't remember seeing on this topic since I joined and figured I'd get some simple replies. I had forgotten that I bought a silverstar for another car and it was way brighter than stock.

And thank you too Soup. don't want to leave you out. I pretty much live a boring live and never got out so really, the only time I'll use my headlights is when I'm making a late nit trip to the autoparts, video store or to get beer. I'm not trying to have blue lights I'm just looking for that daylight flourescent look.

Thanks for the lesson guys. You probably saved me $20.

No problem. I just wasn't sure if you knew about the search feature. I'm the same way you are...I'd rather have someone talk to me about it...LOL....

How late are the Auto parts stores open around your area?

Do those still exist?

Autozone is open till 10. yes, we have a Blockbuster but I only go there for games. Beer, no explanation needed.

well, I went with the sylvania ZXE. they were $60 but I had a $27 mechandise card and got another point which was #5 so I not have another $20 so all in all, it wasn't that bad of a hit. popped them in and oh my, that's what I was looking for. nice and bright and lights up the whole street. Now I just need to get matching fog lights and I an scratch that off the list.

Oh really?? Hmmm. Oh well. I did come across some cheapies on ebay when I was looking for headlights. If I could find something that matches in color, will be good enough. we rarely see fog in Houston and it really doesn't matter if they work or not. I'll keep looking.

I'm running Euro Dezigns H13 6000K HID green bulbs. Love em and they've been true to their word on the lifetime replacement thing. Just send em back and they'll send you new if they ever fail (which they sometimes do). Cheap enough, so I bought two sets and that way I can send them off and not worry when they get replaced.

Cool, thanks for the input. the next thing I want to do is change out the dash lights from red to blue. My 07 eclipse had all blue lights and I really liked them. I did a search and it looks like Ill have to remove the cluster, needles and solder on LED's. however, this is on the back burner at the moment. Thanks again.
