My wife and I will celebrate 37 years of marriage this Friday July 11th. She is buying me a new hood for my Sol. :yesnod: I wanted to get some opinions before I make such a large investment in a new Hood. I am devided between 5 choices. Norms GTO hood, Norms Formula Hood, Norms Classic Single Scoop Hood or RK SPORT Ram Hood? Or should I put the $$ In other Mods and keep the OEM hood ? :willy:

I have seen all the hoods. I would not recommend the RK because every one I have seen has not fit well.

Norms do fit well and the finish is excellent as well. Any of them is a good choice.

The real question is what are your objectives for the car. Having done mods now for seven years, it never ends. :)

I personally like the new dingle scoop version, but the GTO hood looks very good too.

Go for it and enjoy

What other mods? Tune, BCs, interior?

Those are fun and ok, but only you know they are there. Heaving a nicely done cosmetic mod like a hood or paint is a great way to go.

I agree with Rob on the hood and having a severe case of "moditis":willy:

Congrats on your anniversary, but I'm getting mixed signals. It comes down to if you want to focus on show or go. There's no wrong answer.

I vote for Norms new low profile hood (and store the OEM hood), but then I've already put money into BCs, tires, wheels, DDM brace bundle, etc.

Thanks Guys and Rob the Elder...you are my idol! :) I am really leaning toward the GTO hood. I have had the most comments from folks saying to go witht he single scoop hood from Norm but I may be excentric but I really want a little more. I just dont want to have everyone else looking at it thinking...WHY DID HE DO THAT? :)

WillBeck I believe you are the fellow Sol owner I bought the Norms sideskirts from. :) I havnt put them on yet. I want to also purchase the front splitter and when I get it put the side skirts on at the same time.

I have talked to a couple of owners who had the RK Ram Air Hood and they did not have any issues with the fitment I personally like the way it looks as for Norm's hoods what can you say the guy is an artist I just ordered a set of fenders for my car from him and really like his new classic single scoop hood.I take it your car right now is stock if it were me I would do a complete DDM Works suspension brace upgrade but in the end it 's all what you want to your car to do looks or performance.

I'm assuming Norm's hoods are fiberglass. I'm also assuming that they would weight less than the stock steel hood. If they do, that is a performance gain (generally every 100 lbs of weight reduction equates to another tenth of a second gain in the 1/4 mile). Anyone know if this is true and, if so, how much of a weight savings Norm's hood provides? I just wish they had something other than the "viper" hood for the Sky. I'd love a stock (less fake hood vents) shaped CF hood (or even just a fiberglass hood) from Norms.

Robotech : Norm's hoods are fiberglass as are all of his products the hoods weigh about 40 lbs. less then stock and I'm sure he can build you a stock one .As for the Carbon Fiber hood a company Vis Racing makes one about 40 lbs.but from all I have read the fitment is terrible .

Cutting that in half would give you a bit of a benefit on the track. Would be nice to reduce the weight of the trunk too. Bet between the two you could save 60 lbs or more.

Hello, not only do our hoods weigh less than half of stock you must remember thats weight removed from above for a lower center of gravity which is very important. Plus we do make a rear deck lid cover that can be pinned on, also doors too though I only sell those for the track guys.

plus we are in the process of makeing a Sky hood with just the center inlet scoop, without the very fuctional heat extractors.
