Hi Guys,
Every time I get a replacement part for my car it seems very costly and it is not proportional to the price of the itself.

So does anybody know how much would it cost me to buy the whole car in parts? :)

Is it 100,000$? 200,000?

Lol
That is because each part carries its own handling and profit costs. I do not know but I'm sure it's a big number

You also have to consider that if it is a part that is specific to a Pontiac, many of the parts makers were left with huge unpaid bills when GM went bankrupt. I'm sure they "negotiated" higher prices in order to help make up the lost income.

Many years ago, someone with far too much time on his hands and access to price lists (a bored partsman perhaps) went through exactly this exercise in regard to an Austin Mini. The total would have paid for about 4 Minis fully assembled.

If you were to buy a Solstice for parts only (like a salvage package) unit over there and store it . You could recoop any money that you had to spend on the parts . Maybe a Solstice that was in a Flood area that would have to be striped down and cleaned to use.

This goes with any car, truck, motorcycle etc though not just our cars. If you could buy a new car, then disassemble the whole thing; bag and tag all the parts and sell it back to the parts department, I'm sure you could retire comfortably!
