So make long story short, my borther and i were talking and he was telling me wow remember this car and that car you had? In total 16 cars and all were invested meaning i modded got bored sold and got another car.

I promised myself that the solstice would be my last modding adventure but with so many other cars its hard to keep it that way so i ask you all this question.

1. How much have you spent on your car so far includes purchase and mods.
2. How long do you plan on keeping it?
3. How do you fight the urge to keep moving along on you car game?

1 - Bought car $16500 + 5200 on mods
2 - Trying to keep it 5+ years
3 - Trying to buy a home instead to control urges of another car

1. I have spent exactly $16,153.01 on my Sol without gas.
2. I plan on having this car until I total it.
3. Never had an urge to trade in my mini Vette!
I have receipts for $19,980 in paint for the Punisher alone and it's going in for more work next month

I'm one of those stupid people who would buy a Vette or Bugatti engine and somehow cram it into my Sol. :D  .... no lie... :yesnod:

But pssh Rob. Trying to top me.. I'm still young, I promise I will have spent more on my car(s) in my lifetime than most people! Not that it's a proud achievement to brag about...

Bought the car for around $21k. Only money in it right now is oil and gas plus a plug for one tire. Once my son heads off to college I am going to try and convince my wife it needs one of Werks upgrade packages. Probably keep it forever.

1. I have no idea what the total is, but my wife could probably tell you!
2. No plans to sell.
3. Why fight it? Of course this is coming from a guy whose kids are all out on their own.

I see paint in my future because I just can't tolerate the chips and imperfections I have now. Every time I do the "full monty" of wash, clay, polish, wax and seal (usually twice per year) I get more and more dissatisfied with it.

The wife has asked how much a supercharger costs, so I'm seeing that on the horizon, maybe winter after this one. I could see the $30k you mentioned coming up in a few years. Probably would be my limit also.

I bought retail new (only sure way up here to get a coupe - there were very few available). I spent a few thousand on doing what I wanted to do, all in the first 3 months of ownership and nothing since. It is the way I want it (possibly some additional modding after warranty) and the way I'll keep it as long as I own it.

Given that one of my cars has been in my stable for 43 years, another for almost 40 and even my Fiero has been owned for 23 years, I can't see parting with the coupe in the near future. Although I did have an interesting offer on my Italian sports car recently - if that goes, I might possibly add a replacement.

LOL

You have many cars you like and spend time and money to keep to your satisfaction. I have the one.

Well, two if you count the wife's Sky but she steadfastly refuses my attempts to "improve" her car.:willy:

When I was a callow youth (bought my first car at 16 as I needed to be able to get to university) I'd waffle around about what I wanted to do with a car - couldn't leave anything stock, but made some wrong turns and learned from them.

Now that I am an old git, I at last learned what will and what won't send the car in the direction I want, which saves a bunch of time and money.
I'd ordered the GMPP kit before I even took delivery of the car (put a deposit on it but needed a week to break the news to the wife and get her to run me over to pick the new car up).

Finding out what did and didn't work was made far easier by haunting sites like this on an intensive search for information - in gratitude for which I often respond to newbies in the same position, as I note, do you, trying to save them making mistakes with wrong information.

Sadly, I don't have that much time to spend on the car hobby - I have a race car I haven't got around to using for several years - I barely manage to attend a couple of car gatherings a year. I do manage to use about 4 sports cars a year, which is a lot because all but the Solstice and Fiero are on collector plates and usable only for non-work trips.

As for your wife's car, you can always tell her you want to spruce up the engine for her to make it more reliable (women love reliability!) and slip a new slightly different spec turbo or something in there. I managed to completely restore our MGC at home, telling my wife I was helping out a friend, and then gave it to her for a birthday, without her ever suspecting a thing!

Hey Rob, Can I borrow your wallet?

Ya know, when I was growing up, I had a 78 TA that was my baby and I spent countless hours and dollars on getting it right. if I had a dollar for everytime I heard I could have a new car for what I spent on it, I could probably retire. had it for a few years, met my wife, got married and had a kid and sold it on a whim for $1,500. After that, the only modding I did was I put a sound system in EVERY car I owned since then. I bought the 73 Vette in June 2010 for 12500 and probably put 8 grand into it and sold it this year for 15,000. It brought back memories and I completely enjoyed it. Now that I have the GXP, I really don't think I'm going to spent that much on it. Gonna change the sub, solo cat and exhaust, tune and some minor lighting and I think that's it. However, I really really would like to throw a V8 in the thing and get some rims like topdowneh but that's it for sure. Plan on keeping it forever as well as the 06 if my son doesn't completely destroy it before he decides to get something else. I told him he can have it to drive but it does not get sold or traded in.

No argument with the length of Rob's list of Punisher embellishments, but he's definitely not rich or a kid.

I prefer to think of him as an older fellow with a bit of discretionary income. This is a classification that applies to a bunch of us on this forum.

Just a word of warning from one of those who are still tolerating your posts because of your youth and your willingness to learn . . . :toetap: :big-grin: :dthumbs:
