How can I tell if a lower ball joint is bad? It isn't on my gxp but on another vehicle I have. The boot is leaking and now there is a popping noise coming from my suspension when I go over curbs and RR tracks. Just wondering if this could be where the noise is coming from. The shocks and struts also have 120k on them but them seem fine to me without leaks and no strange tread wear on the tires or excessive bouncing when going over bumps.

Do you mean tie-rod end? Get under - or take off the wheel - and try twisting it. If it moves at all, it's probably bad.

Check for ball joint play as follows:
1. jack up and support the vehicle by the control arm
2. put a large pry bar under the wheel and pry up on it

you should be able to feel almost like a click or clunk aside from the normal spring ocilations, you can put your fingers on the ball joint while doing this to feel if there is any play. some vehicles have specs for play, but in general, any play is bad

Thanks guys. It is a a ball joint, it is what connects the lower control arm to the knuckle assembly. This vehicle has a tie rod only on the top of the suspension.
