As a 50 something I have never seen (except for the ads) much less used an I-Pod or MP-3 player, but if there is anyone here that uses either I would be interested in knowing about them. Can they only be used on downloaded music files or can they be loaded from any digitial source? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

an i-pod is nice because you can use it as a portable hard drive as well. but you can put a cd in your computer with i-tunes, and it will add it to your library (list of all your songs). this is nice when you connect your i-pod, and (if you have it set up this way) i-tunes updates the i-pod with all the music in your library. if you delete a song, it gets deleted off of your i-pod. very easy operation. if you have a lot of music, it's worth it to get the bigger (40gb) one

I got me a 3rd gen 40gig version off ebay a little while ago, its great, its biggest flaw, and I dont know if they fixed it in the 4th gen, is theres no good way o get the files back from the ipod once you put them there. However, I did recently just find a program that will let you do that, for $30 I think. It is possible to get the files from the ipod without that program but if you have craploads of music, like myself, its increasing hard because they are lumped into non-organized folders. Also, they have the photo ipods available, with the click wheel. The other thing I regret is the click wheel is still touch sensative, I had thought only the older versions were, the problem is the older version is VERY sensative, and just brushing up against the fast-forward button, for example will change the song, so you constantly have to ride the button-lock switch. But hey Viva La 4th Gen! Go for it, its a great music device and has already been battle-tested. :party

Don't feel bad. I am 27 and I have never personally used it either! :nonod

My cousin has a 40 GB one, and he put his whole CD collection on it via his computer. He just downloaded the music into the computer from the CD's, and then moved it all onto the Ipod. I don't know how long it took him, but he has all his music with him all the time now.
