I have a few questions about intercoolers. Our stock one has 2.5" openings...correct? How big are the Hahn IC tubes? How big is the opening coming out of the turbo? Is it 3.0"? I want to order Werks IC piping, but it's only 2.5". If the turbo outlet is 2.5" then I'm good with the Werks...but if it's 3.0" and the Hahn IC is 3.0", then I'll find something else....

The cold side piping on all the intercoolers are 2.5"

Which under pressure flows plenty. IMO

If you go with the seam-weld option, the Werks IC is under $500 shipped as long as you get it today before midnight. I just ordered mine last night. I strongly doubt that any of the mainstream IC options (Hahn, Werks, DDM) will outperform the others, and the Werks price can't be beat right now.

seems we have some differences of opinion. I read another post and some believe aftermarket will not give you much of an increae over stock. if you do notice a gain seltzer, I'd like to know.

Only if you get the one with the welds, otherwise the price is the same.

I'm probably not going to be a good one to ask. I got an issue with the timing chain that is causing performance to suffer, so by the time I get all of that fixed, I'll probably have the IC on as well, and that won't be an accurate comparison (broken stock vs repaired aftermarket).

My 08 GXP HAS A Gmpp tune, and a SOLO free flow CAT. With their MACH exhaust system. Is there any noticeable increase in horsepower if I install a HAHN intercooler. Also, will the GMPP tune accept the intercooler without any tune upgrades?

There seems to be mixed feedback on this. Some say yes, others say no. You can install a new IC without any adjustment to your tune. The GMPP will allow for added horsepower, if there is any to be gained from an IC or piping. However, the stock OEM tune will not. I got the Werks IC piping....that's my first, then the IC itself will be purchase in January with a high flow Solo cat.... I'll let ya know!

The high flow cat will skew the numbers in your case Ghost.

Based on reading various inputs on this and other forums, my personal belief is that the intercooler does not NEED to be replaced for most drivers.

The GM powertrain engineers stated that the factory IC is not limiting power production unless you race the car for either long duration races or in very hot conditions that will cause the IC to heat soak and reduct its efficiency.

Having said that, there are a few inputs who claimed that they realized an increase in power when they installed a larger intercooler but I have not seen actual data that supports this claim. Not saying its not true but just have not seen the data.

I installed a Dejon intercooler on my car when it was still 2.0. I noticed no difference in performance.

The factory intercooler IS subject to random failures on tuned cars which apparently does not happen with after market units.
