Here’s car 54
By Theophilus Hawkins Jr., Staff Reporter

The number 54 proved to be the lucky number again for Milan High School.
Or at least for its Principal Mike Parks who ended up with car 54 as part of the limited release for the new Pontiac Solstice.
First introduced on the television show “The Apprentice” in early April, the Solstice was limited to the first 1,000 orders for the new car. Potential buyers were assigned numbers through “The Apprentice’s” Web site and entered those numbers into a drawing for the car.
Parks was able to submit his number mere seconds before the Web site was overloaded and crashed, he said.
Parks, who “just happened to be watching The Apprentice that night,” ended up drawing the locally-famous number.
“I just couldn’t believe I drew car 54,” said Parks.
The celebration ended up being delayed because there were delays in getting the car to Lawrenceburg.
Determined to locate his new Solstice, Parks followed reports on the Solstices via car forums and Web sites. “It should have been here a while ago, but it got pulled off the line for quality assurance testing,” said Parks.
Finally, the special edition Solstice was delivered to Ande Chevrolet-Pontiac-Buick GMC in Lawrenceburg where Parks was able to pick it up Friday, Sept. 9.
Ande staff was on-hand to present Parks with the fateful car.
The significance of the number 54 in Milan refers back to the year when tiny Milan High School won the state championship in basketball. That team was later the inspiration for the major motion picture, “Hoosiers.”
