RedOne07, yes that has been my understanding too, all along, that the first Solstice's were coming out in March 2005. Then it must have been a later decision to do the special 1000 cars, which were in mid-year 2005. Just as you have stated. Sounds to me like they were surprised by the acceptance of the Solstice and had not anticipated such wide popularity. I've watched a video of that event in Kansas City. IIRC it was held in August 2005. A couple took delivery of their Solstice at that event, and that Solstice might have been number 1 of that special 1000 group.
Except it was at the Ren Center in Detroit. It pissed me off because I got the invitation the day before the event and couldn't get there in time to attend. The first 1000 had it's own separate VIN sequence, 6Y000001 through 6Y001000.

Oh wait, did you mean you were in Kansas City when you saw the video from the Ren Center? If so, I misunderstood. Oops!

Maybe I am missing something (sorry late to the game), but on the first post this was given:

Model Year 2006
Experimental VIN = Located 78
First 1st 1000 VIN = 1G2MB33BX6Y000001
Last 1st 1000 VIN = 1G2MB33B26Y001000
First regular VIN = 1G2MB33B66Y100001
Last regular VIN = 1G2MB35B66Y120195
Total VIN = 21273

My VIN is 1G2MB33B26Y104238, I know my car isn't a 1k, but how can I have B26Y instead of B66Y? Is the "First regular VIN" maybe miss placed/typed?

You don't need to worry about the B2 or B6 part of the VIN, the last 8 characters of the VIN is a UNIQUE identifier to your vehicle. the "6Y104238" part of your VIN uniquely identifies your individual car: Model year 2006, Assembly plant Y, (Wilmington, Delaware), car number 4238 out of the regular production run of 2006s.

Hey Brad. Is like Dave wrote.

All I can add is that the question itself seems incorrect. Is like asking "Why did Daewoo stop producing the Solstice" :)

As you can see in the attachment to Dave his post the combination "B26Y" has not much to do with the order a car is built.

B = Engine Type. "Always" B in Model Year 2006
2 = Check Digit. Can be 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or X.
6 = Model Year. Always 6 for Model Year 2006
Y = Assembly Plant. "Always" Y, which stands for Wilmington

B26Y and B66Y is found in the First 1000 as well as in the not First 1000 cars.

Example of First 1000 cars are: 1G2MB33B26Y000039 and 1G2MB33B66Y000027
Example of not First 1000 cars are: 1G2MB33B26Y101064 and 1G2MB33B66Y101066

Would like to re-post (click on black chevron to go to the original post) the answer to a VIN related Coupe question.

OK I have a question for the Coupe experts since I am not a coupe fan. What is the real vin# is it 9y00 or 9y10. I see here listings for both.
Both are real VIN.

Of all Solstice coupe VIN there are:

Model Year 2009:
1167 cars that have combination 9Y00
101 cars that have combination 9Y10

And then there is a third one:

Model Year 2010:
12 cars that have combination AY10

I have updated the Coupe Production (based on VIN) table with percentages and coloured bars.

I'm going to add an asterisk to my 1266 vinyl sticker number, and call it good. :lol:

Excuse my ignorance but what does the MY in front of the year represent?
Model Year

For the Wilmington plant, the model year cut-over usually occurred in mid June. (For instance, model year 2007 for the Pontiac Solstice ran from mid-June 2006 through mid-June 2007, at which time model year 2008 started.)

As far as I know that car is from Jan 27 2007 and before yours was built 34791 Solstice rolled off the assembly line.

Why do you assume that ? Isn't the year + month listed on the silver sticker on the left hand door ?

My assumption was due to the previous post VIN being 125494 and being produced the end of January. My vin is 3500 numbers before that so I "assumed" it may have been built the beginning of January.

***just checked the door sticker, says 12/06 so I was not too far off..... Would be interesting to know exact date but its not that important.

Often people ask why I am so keen on including EX-VIN in the coupe numbers.

First of all, they are Kappas, they are coupe, they have a VIN, so the belong in the list.
Secondly, the first lists shared in the forum also included the EX VIN

Some more info, copied from another thread, on the second reason. . . .

Long before I was a Kappa owner and discovered these forums people in this forum where already keeping Kappa production lists, those included the roadsters, coupe and (without realizing it) the EX VIN cars.
At some time forum members where even reporting production numbers monthly, those included the roadsters, coupe and (without realizing it) the EX VIN cars.
At the end of Kappa production forum members shared nice excel sheets with the total production numbers, those included the roadsters, coupe and (without realizing it) the EX VIN cars.

Only when starting to report on coupe-only production people left out (without realizing) the EX VIN.

It seems wrong to count all coupe EX VIN towards total Kappa production but not count those coupe EX VIN when reporting on coupe specifically.

Because people always included EX VIN in the total Kappa production it makes sense to also include the EX VIN when reporting on the small section of the Kappa production, like for instance the coupe.

So basically I am just following the Solsticeforum tradition ! :)
