Kerrville 17 will be February 24th - 26th. Make your plans to drive the best roads in the most scenic area of Texas. For those that don't know, the 3 Sisters area is a technical course and even at slower (Tour) speeds is not a Sunday drive in the park. It is a very challenging and fun drive due to the length and many twisty sections. The Kerrville Run is the full length version of the 3 Sisters Run that was offered for the Austin 2011 Nationals. Lunch for the run will be at the Bent Rim Grill in Leakey and dinner will be at the YO Hotel.

We'll be staying at the YO Ranch Hotel, 2033 Sidney Baker/16, Kerrville (877-967-3767). Rooms are on the stupid tier system again, so I'm thinkin' this may be our last year there.

http://bookings.ihotelier.com/bookings.jsp?groupID=1651771&hotelID=12007
Room Single Rate Double Rate Triple Rate Quad Rate
King Non Smoking $85.00 $95.00 $105.00 $115.00
2 Queens Non Smoking $95.00 $105.00 $115.00 $125.00

Before you Expedia Commandos start hammering me on the rate, this price includes breakfast. If there any booking problems, contact me so we can get it straightened out. If you have any questions, please aks them in open forum. Chances are pretty good that someone else is wondering the same thing and it also saves me from a PM barrage.

Radios are MANDATORY since we'll be out in the boonies and have zero cell reception.

When you sign up, I need to know whether you want to be in a Run (Fast) or a Tour (Not as Fast) group and how many will be coming. As with all things SWSC, this is an open cruise. We don't care what you show up in, just show up...

Friday
9:30 - Launch for K'ville. Starbucks (132 W Loop 820 South) at 820 and I30.
Lunch - TBD.
Saturday
8:20 - 3 Sisters Brief
8:30 - Launch
Dinner at the YO
Sunday
8:45 - Return home Lunch at Hard 8

"Note from a recent MotorcycleRoads.com visitor about this route: "Hwy 16 between Kerrville and Bandera is not for beginners! Due to recent accidents, weekend police patrol has increased a great deal. Hwy 173 may be a better route between Kerrville & Bandera." - See more at: http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/555/Texas/The-Three-Sisters-(AKA-The-Twisted-Sisters)--Ranch-Roads-335-336337a.html#sthash.4l0yPqoV.dpuf"

Re: Radios
A CB emergency radio good enough or are you thinking something else?

Radios we use are usually, Midland, or Cobra, or one of the other consumer band FRS handhelds.

Get the longer range ones as you are out of range of cell phones on this run and it is the only way to communicate between the cars on the run.

Another newbie question:
Do you go out in a pack or at one minute intervals ala a rally?
Tour cars first and Run cars chase them down, or fastest cars first so there is less passing?
Actually that is two questions.

I was gonna answer this, but I think I'll let someone that knows better than me have the honors.

I was going to do this one a couple of years ago, but something else interfered with the long drive to Texas.

We go out as groups. Run leaves 1st & the Tour 2nd. We send the groups in opposite directions to stagger the hit on the Bent Rim for lunch and since we stay on the same freq, it only takes a couple of minutes to have clear comms. The other thing we do in the groups is that we have the fast folks up to the front so they don't push or get frustrated by someone that's going slower than they want to go. This leads to us getting strung out in the twisties, so we find a straight, slow down/stop, regroup & off we go again.

As far as the road noise goes, even in a coupe, you'll still need an earpiece or headset.
