A dry sump (I'm sure someone will correct me if necessary) typically involves an oil pan that is taller than it is wide. The idea is to keep the oil pump from sucking air when the oil sloshes over to the side of the oil pan - high Gs, banked turn, etc. These are standard equipment on Ferrari's, Porsche's, etc.
I would suggest reading up a bit on dry sump oiling systems, your understanding is just incorrect.
