We need your input! The coordinators of the 2014 National are in the process of organizing a special event as part of 2014 NASSM Play and Stay in the Poconos!

Before we proceed any further with the planning, we’d like to gauge your reactions and your level of interest in running the East course at the Pocono Raceway. Track Rental - Pocono Raceway As you might imagine, there is a significant financial component to hosting a day at the Poconos Raceway and we need to be sure that we have enough interested participants before we move forward.

Please read the following information and post your ideas, comments and thoughts. This thread is about sharing the information we have so that you can make a decision about whether you’d want to sign up.

All information is subject to change.

An all-day High Performance Driving Experience (HPDE) on
Friday, June 20th at the East course of the legendary Pocono Raceway

This is not a competitive event, but it will give you an opportunity to explore your KAPPA's and your capabilities at speed in a relatively safe environment. Passing will occur only on straightaways and with the permission of the driver being passed. For what we estimate now to be $250 you'll get 100 to 120 minutes on the track in a group of drivers close to your comfort level of speed, a lunch, and special event participation T-shirt courtesy of Hahn Racecraft.

The cost estimate will be adjusted based on the number of people indicating interest over the next month. The cost will go down as the number of participants goes up. Payment will not be requested until the level of interest has been determined. We have tried to account for the costs that would be involved and we’ve made our best estimates to account for all the costs, but until we are prepared to go to contract, we cannot get firm quotes.

Before getting on the track you will need to show proof of at least $10,000 of A.D. & D. insurance. Liability insurance is included. Your car will be safety inspected and you will need to have or can share, a Snell 2005 (Expires 1/1/2017) or a Snell 2010 (Expires 1/1/2022) helmet. Motorcycle helmets are acceptable.

Spectators are welcome to enter and leave whenever they want; and, since we are arranging a lunch for the participants of the HPDE the cafeteria will be available to spectators as well. So, everyone is welcome to come watch their friends - new and old - flog their KAPPAs around the east road course, take pics and vids, socialize with those not on track, and get close to learning what it's like to find safe limits of your driving skills.

If you want to participate, we need to hear from you by November.

Let's start hearing from you!

Almost every HPDE I've tried to join required a Solstice (convertible) to have a roll bar installed in order to participate. Has the track been made aware that the vast majority of our cars are convertibles without roll bars?

Just asking . . . :dunno:

Color me curious.

Dave, the track doesn't set the rules or requirements for roll bars, they leave the specifics to the various clubs and the insurance companies.

Which doesn't answer the question I asked. The convertible rollbar requirement is usually the result of the track's insurance company limiting it's risk.

It's just one of those things the organizers need to ask before going any further with this.

My inner attorney is making me ask this question, but since I won't be there, it's really more of a curiosity.

Peace out.
