Plastic Brake Handle cover

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic cover from the brake handle? I see a plastic tab on the side which I tried to pull out but wouldn’t budge. So rather than use force and possibly break it I thought I’d first ask the Forum. I want to customize the plastic part of the handle and removing it would make it easier. Any help will be appreciated.

This thread discusses just pulling it off. I feared breaking it also so I masked it off and re-painted it in place.

Best way to remove: COVER. Parking Brake Apply Lever

My "COVER. Parking Brake Apply Lever" was scratched so I got a new one. I had expected to be able to simply pull it off, but no-go. Does any one know the best / easiest way to remove the old one ? 2007 Pontiac Solstice Base Convertible PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM
