Spent Saturday working on the Minion car. We swapped the coolant, installed a water temperature sensor into the water pump drain port and an oil sending unit into the port at the back of the head. We tried several different locations for the oil pressure sensor but they all require significantly more work.

We also replaced his right inner fender which was half gone from the previous owners curb rash, repaired the broken PVC valve nipple and when we were replacing the inner fender found that one of the fender attachment points was broken off the fender but still attached to the inner fender.

Strangely enough we got it all back together and everything works!

Oh, and we found the air cleaner box was full of dog food thanks to a previous mousey resident. We cleaned that out too.

Received a well used tulip panel. It had one flap still mounted. But the price I paid was less than just the remaining hardware currently costs. If you can find it.

As an experiment I used heat and a screwdriver to remove the metal mount for the missing flap. I have seen some tulip panels with the hinges broken off the metal mount which basically means throwing the tulip panel away. But since I can now remove and replace the metal mount I can repair an existing tulip panel.

Got time to fix the retainers for the top seals that the top "feet" seat into when the top goes up. They are glued on and held in the door sills with special retainers. I am missing the retainers and you cant source them so I went looking for an alternative. Worked great.

Decided to use two retainers a side. I drilled a small hole through the rubber and the door sill then inserted one of the retainers into the hole. The retainer has ribs so it holds well.

The second retainer hole is made for a much larger shaft. I used an old model builders trick and wound the retainer with thread to make it fit tightly in the existing hold.

If the weather holds, planning on taking Punisher up the mountain to the 2018 hotel. Should be fun. Right now it looks good but it is Colorado.
The speedometer showed up. Here is a picture. It is Tangerine!

this is a GPS gauge. All it needs is 12v power. The GPS receiver antenna needs to be able to see the sky but other than that it can go anywhere you want. Should be fun.

How much time is there between the way points it uses for the calculation.
It's very near time. It calculates continuously.
Rob, I'm right outside of your garage, where is everybody? Or is it that I just can t see them for all the snow? Just kidding! Please let us know when "garage day" is rescheduled? Thanks.
Lol
Good one

Next Saturday
Found a source of GM parts from an after market reseller. I believe that many GM inventory parts were sold off to this company. They use a version of the parts catalog but only those parts they have in inventory come up when you do a search.
They appear to have convertible top canvas and assemblies in both black and neutral but without acoustic liner. I bought my black top from this source through GM on line. You can no longer do that and need to go directly to the reseller.

Got the new speedo mounted to the dash. Still need to wire it to 12V but that is relatively simple

The GPS antenna is mounted on the tulip panel. Worked very well.

Took the car out for a drive on garage day. Gave Dave a quick trip up the freeway. He was smiling!

He is in the process of assembling parts to add a turbo to his NA. But then he has been a professional mechanic for over 40 years and does great work. >:)
