Got the updated speedometer and tac - o - meter from Speedhut installed in the Dragon.

They look great and both are functioning. For reasons unknown the speedometer illumination is not working. It acts like they may have damaged the lighting or I damaged it when installing. Its on the same lighting circuit (fuse 28 thanks John) as the tach which works fine.

I figured out the speedo. The polarity on the plug was reversed. And unlike the other gauges that light up the face while the numbers stay dark, the speedo lights up the numbers while the face stays dark. Once I put it into the dark and checked everything the numbers came up. Checked it with "the owner" aka Lovie and she said it was fine. Fine. Sigh

So I am reinstalling everything including running lighting power to all the other gauges.

I also drilled out another turbo banjo bolt to accept an oil pressure gauge.

I think I may be in need of counseling. I spent four hours cleaning, polishing and ceramic coating the polished wheels on the PunisheR Support Vehicle. Sigh. They look GREAT but . . . IDK. Maybe its a bit too much.

Visited the PunisheR at Community Autobody. They were doing the final prep of the hood. They have the airbrush artist identified. Should be test fitting maybe this week. Progress! Maybe it WILL get the "new" Norms GTO hood before the Nationals this year!

Some pics of the banjo bolt for the oil pressure sending unit. Using the cutting fluid made it a very easy job and preserved the bit for the next opportunity.

Pictures of the Norms hood during the fitting process. I also included an "after" picture of one of Norm's hoods from his website.

In process picture of the gauge install in the Dragon. The lights work! Next is replacing the existing oil pressure gauge with the Speedhut unit that matches the coolant temp and voltage gauges in the pillar pods

And now . . . the soap opera that is the painting of my new hood.

I have used the same body shop for the life of the car. Chipmagic was the shop and the owner became my good friend. We still have lunch every Friday.

I took my hood in to the shop to have it mounted. He was giving me a great price but wanted to paint the underside with luminescent paint. It waited for MONTHS while they figured out how to do the electronic paint. Then he sold the shop. To a young man who had NO experience in running any shop let alone a body shop.

He changed the name to Community Autobody, took over the Chipmagic shop and started learning the business.

He ended up with a new manager every two months.

The body techs and the painters cycled through it seems like every few weeks.

He moved the business into a building that his father owns (who cosigned for the purchase) and fired everyone and started over again.

Meanwhile, he made a down payment and was on contract to make monthly payments of the residual owed. He has been late every month since he made the purchase. Two months ago he stopped making payments at all. My friend "called the note" and sent a formal document via his lawyer to the purchaser in accordance with the contract.

As soon as the document showed up at the shop, the kid had to tell his dad that he had not paid and that he did not have the money to pay.

They got into a FISTFIGHT! Screaming, fists flying . . . I mean . . seriously.

The younger went away and has not been seen in over a week. The dad is at the shop ever day - with a black eye - telling the latest shop foreman that he is not doing a good job, that the dad has to pay for the body shop losses from his other business, a car repair shop and that the foreman is an idiot.

So now my car is there with the new hood nearly fitted. They did 7 sprayouts so the painter feels that he has matched the paint, but who knows! The foreman told me yesterday he has had it with the owner and his kid and he is going to start his own shop!

So now they will have ownership with no clue how to run a business, one body tech working on 12 cars (not mine) and one painter.

I am going to go see who is left when the dust settles and see about getting my car completed. More than I ever wanted to know.

At least the kid's father stepped up. A friend of mine sold his machine/fabrication shop to some guys who made payments to him for a year, then reorganized under a new name with new partners and declared bankruptcy. They got to keep the business and all of the equipment, and my friend got nothing. It was obviously planned from the beginning, and research since has revealed that the "new partners" have done this multiple times with different front men.

I am ever hopeful. I will check on progress and see how it goes for a while. Completion of my work is written into the sale contract for what that is worth. And its paid for.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about everything Rob. Guess it looks like I won't be going back there to have my Norm's fenders shot. I need to do some searching, I'm sure there's some awesome painters here in Denver.

I am hoping that they settle down and get their act together. If I had not already paid for the work I would be looking elsewhere. But they have great plans and in their favor, the father has been very successful running his auto repair business for many years. I am going to keep watching and see how it comes out.
