Interesting work with a material i hadnt seen before Rob.
How long to cure until this stuff is sandable?
The two part mixed glue sets in less than a minute. The repair patch should be allowed to "set" for a couple of hours according to 3M

Do you think all the cracking is the result of the torque flex you generate, or the much under hood activity that you carry out on your special Solstice, or just age related. Are those factory fender liners.
No, there isnt a lot of flex. The frame is very rigid and the backbone makes it even stiffer. The inner fenders have been failing since year one car one. The plastic is kind of brittle and they started failing very early. They went to "soft" fasteners because of the cracking. The dealers replaced thousands of them under warranty. Then most people kind of gave up and just accepted that they would crack and either ignored the issue or went to after market replacements.

The advantage of this repair is it should be long lasting and if it cracks again, its easy to repair.
The biggest cause of failure other than just vibration while driving is leaning in over the fender to work on the motor. When you put pressure on the top of the fender, that is transmitted to the mounting holes and can contribute to them failing.

Get well soon.

I'm pretty sure wife and I have had the '22 version about a month ago. I had a very mild case and she was off her rocker for about 3 days (had to stay home only one full day) but we did not take tests. I made a deal with her that had the symptoms not receded in the 4th day she would be going to the lab for testing and if her test came positive I would get myself tested but it wasn't necessary.

I cannot prove it is related but I had taken ivermectine pills (1x6mg pill per 60~70lbs of body weight so took two) about a week before she fell ill and had much milder symptoms than her.

We both have had 3 shots and she had Omicron before the bosster while I had the July'20 strain that was making rounds in Brazil back then, before being vaxxed. All 3 doses Pfizer.

I too found it funny because the most famous use around here for ivermectin is for cattle and horses. Took the COVID pandemic for me to know there exists a human version. I do take worm medication every 6 months, used to be albendazole, now it's the "horse stuff" only for humans.
Come to think about it, I have been feeling a little Bojack lately.... Oops 😬:ROFLMAO:

Rob,

We've done the same series and in an equally timely manner. Have test kits at the ready. Kate is still teaching at the college so more chances for exposure. Amazing just how many people here in the scofflaw state still mask. That is a good thing. Grocery store, Costco, WalMart for sure. Pretty serious about wanting to be around awhile. Hope you get feeling better soon. Here's to a strong and healthy rest of the holiday season!

Decided I wanted to reinforce the top of the right inner fender crack repair. While thinking about how to accomplish this, well a brain fart happened. If I am patching it I might as well take advantage of the opportunity

I sense a lot more of this kind of "repair" in the future of the car. Using a sharp blade over glass, it was suprisingly easy to accomplish.

Inner fender repair documentation for posterity
The inner fender had failed because people over the years lean on the top of the fender while leaning into the engine bay. This creates cracks on the top of the right hand fender liner and broke both attachment points where the top, front of the fender is bolted to the bumper cover mount. I prepped the bottom side per the video, then held it in the proper position and applied the upper repair patch that was cut using an exacto knife to match the shape. Within a few seconds the bond was firm. I then cut a second patch and applied it to the outer section of the cracked mount. Once this is in place, I prepared and applied patch material on the bottom side of the area. Then I held the fender in the proper location and using a small drill bit, I drilled down through the mounting bolt threaded end which assured alignment. Then I drilled out the hole to fit the mounting bolt and installed it. All good. Came out better than it was when new.

I did similar with each of the failed attachment points. In order to not increase the inner thickness, I applied the underside patch first, then cut the upper patch to match the damaged area. This keeps the upper mounting surface consistent for a good fit but provides significant reinforcement to the through mounting fastener

I am considering another potential "upgrade" to this repair. I can add additional reinforcement in the form of a plastic washer epoxied to the bottom of the fender to make the repair "bullet proof" for the long term

This same repair will work on Sky fenders where they tend to crack at the bottom mount, I am considering adding the reinforcement to our as yet undamaged fenders to avoid the potential for cracking in the future as they age. If your fenders are cracked, this is an acceptable repair and in fact can be used to reassemble a fender that has been broken into multiple large pieces. Its great stuff.
