So as I said in another post, I successfully installed AC on my non-AC 2006 Sol.

However, since we had to replace the BCM, the radio now displays LOCK. I've tried some of the other ways to unlock it (hold 2 and 3 button...) but nothing has worked. I called the dealer and they want $160 to unlock it to which I replied; Are you crazy!

So, does anyone know how to unlock the radio in a Sol?

Thanks!

It has to be reset at the dealer. There no other known way to clear it. You might try calling around others dealers though - $160 is outrageous for 10mins work.

that sucks. i know on my montero sport, I entered the code wrong too many times and the fix was to leave the key in the on position for 18 hours. There's got to be someone out there that knows the trick. maybe out GM service reps can help. I'd send them a PM with your VIN right away.

The anti theft software loads the Vin from the BCM on first boot up of the radio. It checks the BCM Vin number every time you turn it on. It must be reset to new status before it will load a new vim

@davev I agree. I think it's stupid that it should cost that much for all of 5 minutes of work. I'll see what my local mechanic says and I'll go from there. Hopefully that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

My dealer will do it as a courtesy.

Before they came up with better security for expensive radios, they were a lot more breakins

Why not try to see if the GM lady here on the forum could give you some help with the dealer.

Alright. It's done. Found a guy with a Tech 2 that reset it for $40. Not bad. Had it out with the dealer today. Drove by just to see if I could talk to someone. Waited in the service area for 20min. Finally someone came by and asked if I was being helped. I replied 'no' and they said ok, be right with you. Long story short, I pulled my car into the service lot and told the guy what was up. Said that I just needed a tech 2 to reset the vin. He said alright, well that'll cost you nothing less than $165 and could be a few hundred because they may need to pull the unit out and get the serial number. Told him no need, I have pictures of the number. He said well that won't work. After that I said, in a nice tone, hell I might as well just get an aftermarket HU. The service guy then said, in a very snappy tone: 'well then, you just go ahead and do that then'. Pointed to the exit and said 'there's the exit'. Told him all my family has 4 GM cars and that he just lost all of our business. Damn, I can't stand some car service reps. /rant

when I had my old Nova, I could power brake it and light up my right rear tire up and sit at a redlight and smoke everybody out. It would be nice to have an old car just for that purpose. Go home, get it and smoke that place up until everyone ran out choking. then leave with 1 finger less than a peace sign out the window. what a jerk.
