I Recently purchased a 2006 Pontiac Solstice and the rear hatch will not stay up? Where are the shocks or is there just a rod to hold the hatch up? Need help?
The trunk lid is held up by two torsion bars that will fatigue and get weak, as yours have.I Recently purchased a 2006 Pontiac Solstice and the rear hatch will not stay up? Where are the shocks or is there just a rod to hold the hatch up? Need help?
I've done it to my 2006 as well.Just FYI for the gas strut installation on a 2006 Solstice is a bit more complicated than on a 2007-09 due to sheet metal changes they made for making the Sky and Opal GT models. The strut is almost a straight bolt in on a 2007-09 Solstice, but requires a small amount of steel to be removed on a 2006. But it is not that difficult and does work well on a 2006. I have done it to mine.

Hi. That information was very useful and thanks. I have a 2006 Solstice I just purchased. I have a question maybe you could answer for me, the rear hatch does not pop up when I press the rear hatch release button in the glove box. When it is released the hatch rubs against the body at the hinge side. It looks like the hatch should come up and then open ? Thanks in advance. The trunk lid is held up by two torsion bars that will fatigue and get weak, as yours have. Replacement of the bars requires removal of the rear bumper cover, and assumes that you can find new bars. Two alternatives are the installation of a coil spring, and the installation of a gas strut assembly. The spring is inexpensive and easy, but I did not find it to be as good a solution as others have. The gas strut assembly is made in Germany, elegant, relatively simple to install, but somewhat expensive. Discussions of all three options can be found on the forum with a search, or someone may re-post the information here.
This is a separate rear deck lid issue than the fatigued torsion bars.Hi. That information was very useful and thanks. I have a 2006 Solstice I just purchased.
