Rear Window Separation

278 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  rob the elder
The rear window on the canvas top has broken its seal for about 8-9 inches. Can I use something like Crazy Glue to reseal it? Or is there a better sealant? I have searched the internet and I get many different answers, most saying that the whole window will eventually break its seal no matter what I do. Others suggest some kind of 3M window seal product for use in a caulking gun.

Been there brother! Save your time and go for the correct and most effective fix with this.
Wedge towels behind your seats to push on the glass and blue tape on outside to hold top material to glass. Give it 24hrs to cure and trim off any dried ooze on glass with a razor blade.

Thanks so much for the advice on how to fix the back window separation. I was wondering how to go about doing it no matter what glue i used.

+1 for suction cups. I tried without them 2x and the results weren't satisfactory. I still have a small leak.

Here are the clamps we used with success

Amazon.com: JEUCLEL 6PCS Suction Clamp Set for Car Body Repair, Blue Suction Cup Class Clamps Kit for Convertible Glass Windshield Top Repair Gluing : Automotive

Key is to get even pressure and have the clamps location pre planned. We found that doing a dry run with the clamps to ensure you know where each clamp goes and actually clamping the canvas to the window before applying glue is an essential step to avoid problems. The adhesive is very stickey and will NOT come off anything it touches. So you done want to be figuring out how to clamp it after applying the glue. :)

I cannot believe how helpful the people on this forum are. I had enough skills to keep my old MGB-GT or my VW bus on the road when I was young, but lost a lot of my knowledge and abilities for working on cars when I started leasing, and now in my 70s I find that I often need guidance. Thanks to you and to the many others.
