The wife has a 2007 solstice with 20k miles. Yesterday when she turned the heater on it smelled funny and coolant was leaking out of the AC drain line on the firewall. Am I correct in thinking the heater core is leaking? If so, can I replace it myself or do you need to purge the AC system like on some cars? I assume the heater core is behind the dash so it will be a PITA to do. I am willing to tackle it but not if you have to purge the AC system.

Thanks

I see no reason for coolant being in the AC line. The AC line should have refrigerant in it. If the coolant coming out of the AC drain line is clear, then it is water condensation. If it is the same color as what is in you Water Tank(drivers side) then you have me stumped(which is not hard to do) But if that is the case I would check all the hoses and lines on that side of the car for a leak. Who knows what the smell might have been. Lack of use?
