Last couple of days I have been disecting the Vehicle Indetification Number of my Solstice.

Especially Position 4 and 5 where difficult. I thought it should be MC (Solstice Auto Trans) but my code was MB. I found out the meaning of these letters changes from year to year. Case solved :)

I attached the VIN System from model year 2006 to 2010. The 2010 one was multiple pages so I could not convert that to an easy image, therefore it is still a pdf. Source = http://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vincards/

2005 added later in order to provide some additional info on the Restraint Code problem.

These hopefully come in handy. Although I do think the must be somewhere in these forums already.

Interesting, but one quibble: my restraint code is 3, which means I should have multiple air bags, when my restraint system actually matches code 5. I wonder what's up with that?
I just looked in the factory service manual, and it says I should have code 2, but the description differs from the chart. Go fig.

My car was made it canada? Plant is Wilmington? 119,928? How many solstices were made again? lol
Where do you get Canada? 1=US built

Wilmington, Delaware, USA

Drop the leading 1. (Car number 1 was 100001)(There were 1000 cars made where the numbering was 000001 thru 001000 - the First 1000)(Total 2006 production was 21,273)

Any other questions?

I was told that from the serial one can not deduct which number car I have.

-- but lets try it with the info Dave provided --

My VIN is .......7Y141338

So my car is the 42338th Solstice built. (my VIN 41338 + first 1000 = 42338)

According to GM Database my car was built 06/06/2007. Solstice Production from start till end of May 2007 was 44194 (from production stats posted in these forums). Lets add 150 Solsice cars that where built in June before my car was built (total 2007 June Solstice production was 1097). 44194 + 150 = 44344 Solstice cars from beginning till my car was built.

44344 is a lot more than 42338. Difference is about 2000 cars. Any suggestions where I went wrong ?

BTW: I know, never do calculations in public. :)
Well, here we are...What does 'Produced' really mean? :brentil:

Actually (really ) the Kappa production line did not manufacture units with sequential VINs. The first 1K had sequential VIN's, and the Coupes had them after the protos. But that did not mean that was the way they came off the Production line. Even the 2010's, all of them were interspersed in the production line in Wilmington.

I have pictures of mine when it was 'born' and that date has units with lower VINS after it. AWA units with later VINS before it.

Time & Date is what you need to focus on.

If only it was that easy. Starting in model year 2007, the last six of the VIN were shared between Solstices, Skys, Opel GTs and Daewoos, and, they were not assigned, nor were they built, in a sequential format.

Thanks Dave, thought your previous post was a way to calculate the number of Solstices built before a certain VIN. I never knew that was possibleso I was suprised that you indicated it was possible, now I know I misunderstood your post.

I got the built date from the GM database, but how would I find out the time ?

Where did you get the photos of your car being built. Must be great to have those, makes one wonder why they did not do thst for all car and sell them to petrol heads like us :)
SolNut got pictures be cause he caused them a lot of pain from his dealer! They wanted to prove to him is car was built. :) He was "Special". ;)

do you have an idea where I can look
What he is saying is that the data is not publicly available, he has compiled it from a variety of sources over the years.
