I'll start here before I go to the general discussion. Anybody out there with an EDAG roof? On car or off?

I have one sitting in the garage, along with the installation kit. But I'm not interested in selling.

Make great conversation pieces at the estate sale. At least that's what I say about some of the "stuff" I'll probably never use but don't want to get rid of. Unfortunately we eventually realize that he who dies with the most toys simply dies and others have to deal with it, or not. I think of Bob Brown sometimes. In many ways a brother in the collecting, and leaving behind. It might be terminal when you realize you have more than one of something...

A hard top in the “shooting brake” vein.
Search the site. Plenty of pics :)

It is a cap for a Solstice that looks like a mini-station wagon Styling in reminiscent of the Chevvy Nomad. Those who attended NASSAM 2021 in Bellaire MI may recall one showed up at the car chow. The owner has since passed and I have no idea what happened to the car, but suspect one of his daughters kept it.

EDAG is the name of the company that manufactured the wagon like hardtop. People have used different terms over time to describe them: Nomads, Shooting Brake, Touring Coupes, Sports Wagon, etc. In fact Pontiac had their own two door wagon version (55-57) called the Safari Wagon.

CGI two door wagons are constantly turning up on the internet. Physical ones not so much. Callaway did make a C7 version called the Aerowagen that I liked, but I doubt they sold many. "The hatch is designed to fit on all C7-generation Corvette models and is priced from $14,990. If the owner wants it to match the color of the car, that’ll be an extra $2,980 while a further $1,995 can be spent on the optional ‘AeroSpoiler’."

Last week BWM showed a Z4 Touring Coupe concept car at some real fancy car show event in Europe. It's stunning. It's hoped that BMW will make a limited production run of them. I'm guessing it will easily be $100,000 plus it they do.

As I recall, and could be very wrong, 'Shooting Break" was an English term for a car, typically Rolls or Bently, converted to what we would call a "waggon". You'd never use a modern SUV or Ford Excursion for this as they might get dirty. Shooting Breaks were outfitted to carry weapons for "sport" shooting of pheasants or other small creatures for pleasure. Going from memory again of articles in R&T, Car & Driver and Automobile. David E. was a fan I believe.

FWIW, Chop posted a link to a yellow Solstice, not too long ago, with an EDAG top, for sale on the internet. Price was almost reasonable. Like buying the top, color matched, and getting a free car. I think it was a GXP. Appeared one part of the kit was missing that would finish it off. I called about it and never got a reply back. The dealer selling the car almost immediately raised the price and it disappeared.

You are pretty close in your description. The "shooting brake" (brake is the more common spelling) is always a coupe-based wagon, ie: they always have two doors rather than the four of an American-style sedan-based "station wagon".

Contrary to some opinions that it is some sort of abomination or "tumor", I rather like the look. I will also say that (in my opinion) it looks better in person than in pictures.

Note: Wagon owner misspells "waggon"! Cue Mark with "you can't fix stupid", or apparently proofing either, in my case. Back to the archives. In memory I do see the magazine photos, usually a 3/4 hind view with gate and glass open.

"A shooting brake, occasionally spelled shooting break, is a car body style that is a station wagon version of a coupé car, instead of being sedan-based. " Wikipedia

Sigh... ;)

It is sad they weren’t able to use the KAPPA platform for other cars

I might have bought this 2004 Kappa based Chevy Nomad concept had it been brought it to market. Maybe this is where Edag got the idea for a Solstice Sports Wagon.
