I appologize if this has been discussed - I poked around and didnt' see it anywhere.

Anyhoo what are those rectangular cutouts on the silver trim immediately behind the headrests? Is it something functional or just a relic of how they assembled things or provide access for something or other...?

thanks,

They allow room for the top rear supports when you close the trunk lid and the top is up. They are spring-loaded flaps that pop-up when you put the top up and then go back down to cover the holes when you put the top down.

When the top is up these allow the top frame to come all the way forward. They actually flip up when the top is raised.
