20th Annual Keels & Wheels Concours d'Elegance – Stutzes, Bugattis and a Pontiac Solstice

Full article:
Keels & Wheels ? Stutzes, Bugattis and a Pontiac Solstice (pic of 2010 Kinetic blue 2.4, end of article)

Solstice excerpt:
The second thing I noticed was the number of "Next Gen" sports cars on the field. For the first time, I saw a Pontiac Solstice coupe entered in a concours. Although built recently, in 2010, this is nonetheless a rare car, with just 1,266 made.

I'll bet that's the car that belongs to they guy who wants ridiculous amounts of money for them (he has two). He's been shopping them around the shows for years in the hopes of getting a bite.

Maybe because this is a Concours d'Elegance it gives the Solstice some legitimate collectibility cred.

Three 2010s were Kinectic blues, a Heritage GXP (01), and another GXP (23), which leaves the 2.4, manual highlighted blue one below (18);

Of the three 2010 Kinectic blues, the Heritage GXP can be ruled out, which leaves the two (2.4s) highlighted blues below (both manuals);

2010 Models
AY100001 GHF - PRIMARY COLOR KINECTIC BLUE MET/FRESH GXP Hertiage Ed. Man 4/30/2009 P.E.P./SPL EVENT
AY100018 GHF - PRIMARY COLOR KINECTIC BLUE MET/FRESH Solstice Coupe Man 6/1/2009 P.E.P./SPL EVENT
AY100023 GHF - PRIMARY COLOR KINECTIC BLUE MET/FRESH GXP Coupe Man 5/27/2009 P.E.P./SPL EVENT
Since there is only 1 Kinetic Blue LE5, that's it - AY100018, assuming sirwm's pic is the car we are looking at.

:D

Actually Chop...I was just reading an article (can't remember the publication) that GM was to offer a V8 in 2011 or 2012 for the Solstice. The motor supports were built specifically for this in the very first year, but GM wanted to get interest in the car before putting a $35-$040k price on a V8. It had already been cleared with the Corvette division, though they weren't happy about it. I found it really interesting. I'll see if I can dig it up again.

Ghost the problem with that, it was not true.
You said a publication, probably Car & Driver, Hot Rod or some of the others that are always speculating but have no real proof.
The only thing that was ever divulged by GM was the move to Bowling Green in 2012.
There was never any mentioned of a V8.

Really?? Move Kappa manufacturing to Bowling Green? That just seems weird/expensive. What was wrong with Wilmington, Delaware?

Wilmington was a huge plant, much larger than was needed for Kappa production. Bowling Green is a much smaller plant, and was going to have space available with the phaseout of the Cadillac XLR. It makes a lot of sense from a dollars and cents perspective to operate a manufacturing plant at or near to capacity.

If I remember correctly, they were going to shift Kappa production for model year 2011 or 2012 to Bowling Green. There would also have been some design changes that would have come with the shift. We'll never know, since it never happened.

:dunno:

OK. Thanks, Dave.

BTW, did you know that GM is going to spend $350 million to expand BG?

I did not know that. Interesting!

http://www.areadevelopment.com/newsItems/5-21-2015/general-motors-expansion-bowling-green-kentucky756564.shtml

Just as a side note, the Wilmington plant is approximately 3.2 million square feet, while Bowling Green is about 1 million square feet. Total Kappa production at Wilmington (Solstice, Sky, Opel and Daewoo) was about 79% of Corvette production at Bowling Green in terms of the number of units made.

Actually is more than that, is $430 million.
This topic has been talked about in the Corvette Forum and it covers the painting area and latest post talks about the C8 and the Zora ZR1 development for 2017 or 18.
