The telephone microphone that came with my kenwood radio mounts in a bracket on top of the steering column. woks well but is sort of intrusive in that location. Does anyone know of maybe a button disc type mic that I could mount inside the A pillar?

I have wired a built in onstar microphone directly in place of the one supplied with the radio with good results before. Was in my friends 07 gxp

Was that the small mic that is already in the A pillar? I changed out original A pillar cover but I think I still have that mic.

I mounted the microphone that came with the radio near the top of the windshield right by the left visor. I ran the wire down the A pillar and had plenty of wire left over. I then used a foam Mic screen to cut down on the wind noise when driving.

The mic is fairly close to my face when driving so it works much better in that location. I'm able to use it with the top down (with windows up) and no one complains about the audio quality. that seemed to be the easiest and most convenient way to install the Mic.

I have no need for the Onstar system. Could the Onstar mic be repurposed as a remote phone mic?

I don't have OnStar on my 2007, but the little vent lines for the Onstar Mic are still on the A-pillar. Is there a mic already in there, or is it just blank? Going to be replacing my head unit this winter. If there is already a mic/wires from the mic - it would save a few steps.

Stick a toothpick in the little vent lines. If there is a mic in there it won't go in but about 1/16". If there is no mic, it will go in at least 3/4" or more. To be really sure, you can take the sun visors off (one screw each), drop the fascia that runs across the top of the windshield, and snap the A pillar cover loose by pulling at the top. The wiring may be there even if the mic is not. There is a 2" pigtail on the mic that plugs into the wiring harness.
