Well you drove your Solstice up to St. Joseph
To see the total eclipse of the sun...

The total eclipse will occur at exactly 1:06:27pm CDT in St. Joseph Missouri on August 21st, 2017. Totality will last 2 minutes and 38 seconds. The partial phase start will be at 11:40:42am at "1:00 o'clock on the sun's disk. St. Joe is just an hour north of Kansas City and 2 1/2 hours south of Des Moines. I'm already planning on having lunch in the umbral shadow. Shall we make this a Kappa event?

The southern half of St.Louis will also be a good spot for the show about 10 minutes later, but that's a little too far for me to drive for lunch. Maybe some of you may want to set up your own local event. Here is a link to a map showing the total path of the eclipse through the U.S.:

Grandpa,
I'd be interested in meeting you and others in St. Joe. I'm usually off on Monday's. I live in a Overland Park KS.

My wife's sister lives in Jeff City, and we spent many years in Kansas City, Missouri. We are talking about making this trip. So who knows we might have a good sized group by the time it rolls around.

Update

Well, I have changed my mind. Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville Missouri, home of the Budweiser Clydesdales, is hosting a Solar Eclipse Experience from 10:00am until 3:00pm which includes tours, eclipse eyewear, parking, and two 10-ounce samples of Budweiser. Clydesdale photo opportunities will be available for guests. Food and beer will be available onsite for purchase. Tickets for adults are $50 each and must be purchased in advance. The ranch is right on the center line of the eclipse. This sounds like great fun and will require no planning on my part.

FYI: Hotels along the path of the eclipse are filling up fast and the prices are going up. So whether you are heading to St. Joe, Boonville, St. Louis, or elsewhere and need overnight accommodations, I suggest you make your reservation soon. If anyone is interested in a Monday morning caravan, we have our tickets and plan on staying at the Holiday Inn at 7333 Parvin Road in KC Sunday night.

I hesitate to post this, but...on one hand, thanks for arranging/setting this up! I appreciate that it takes the monkey off of your back.

On the other hand (and nothing at all personal), fifty bucks each ??? for a tour (which is usually free, at least it used to be free when the Stroh Brewery tours were still in Detroit), parking (also usually free), maybe, being generous, 2 bucks for the "eclipse eyewear" and less than two bottles of beer. A hundred bucks for a couple? Ouch!!!

the cheap...er, frugal Radio Doc :surprise:

That makes St. Joseph the best deal. I'm from there, and there are several items of interest in St. Joe. The Patee House Hotel (Lincoln slept there) has an excellent museum, and is just up the hill from the Pony Express building. The home of Jesse James is at the back of the Hotel, and is where he was shot. Krug Park or Wyeth Hill are other good places to observe. Lots of fast food on the Belt Highway.
