I would just like to report that our Solstice after taking it for quite a long ride has NO CLUNKING,NO WIND,PLETTY OF PICK UP ( they say it gets even better after few hundred of miles, also waiting for the cat back next week suppose to add 5/10 HP we'll see)passenger side leaks slightly but with all the rain in CT. I'm not surprized. We're going to try take top down and put back up we haven't done this because of rain but when dealer put top up he had the windows closed, I heard this was a no no.

I just love the car, and by the faces and comments of people when the see it they do too.
Tomorrow taking it to the Moheagan Sun Casino in Ct., Will park at the second valet parking if anyone in that area wants to come see it.

The only problem I have had is nobody seems to know or care about where my vehicle may be.

deluke, I'm glad to hear you've haven't seen any real problems with the car. :)

The rain is finally gone, so put the top down and do some drivin'! (Well, have your hubby do some drivin', while you enjoy the ride.)

top squeak

I have noticed a squeak when the top is down and you are driving on a rough road and it is shaking the car. I think I may have isolated it to the top that is down in the trunk. I hear the same squeak when I push down on the top while it is stored in the trunk on the end closest to the rear window. I think it might be the steel pins (that fit into the top of the windshield) hitting against a metal bracket in the trunk on both sides. I haven't been able to test this theory yet but I am going to try and put some foam pieces around the metal pins to see if the squeak goes away.

You better take it back and have it looked at. They are supose to clunk, it's ok. That's what they told me. It realy isn't bad. I just don't like hearing that some of them don't ever clunk. Enjoy your car, I love mine, everything else is perfect. I a kind a like my clunk.

I liked the comment from Bob Lutz that was reported the other day from
an interview. He was talking about convertible leaks and said that they had
tested in their leaktest facility (sort of like an indoor Niagara Falls) every
single convertible currently in production - they all leaked he said, none were watertight. He said they really worked hard to make the Solstice leakproof
(which also makes the Saturn Sky the same), and also to make sure all of the panels fit snugly.

yeah, i posted that and it was (rightfully) moved to the 'solstice in the news' section, along with the times article today on the solstice. :)

performance QUESTION: i keep reading little mutterings from people about the lack of power and the "good ...for the horse power" and i am wondering if anyone can compare the driving experience of the solstice to a car like mazda's V6 626...aside from the fact that its not a convertible and only has the joys one finds in a sunroof. ;)

my friend got a new nissan and i noticed that my 10 year old mazda 626 still glides on the road like a soundless thunderbolt MORE THAN HIS NEW CAR, and makes my passengers smile at the ease of pickup darting up the highway at full speed within 5 seconds. Its an old girl, but there is true grace and power in that vehicle. I also rented a 2005 car on a trip and felt like i was slumming it. the mazda 626 isnt an expensive car but....proof is in the pudding. it can clearly put alot of its siblings to shame.

So the question i am having is...am I going to find that the solstice cant match up to the V6 engine i'm used to in my mazda??? i have been ASSUMING that, as a roadster, the solstice will definitely match the auto-macho of my 626.........but i am fearfully beginning to wonder.

someone please put that concern to rest...unless it is a reasonable possibility after all. THANKS for any help!

Didn't notice the clunk for the first 50 Km but then it started and is very noticeable. I now have about 300 km and I've made three excuses tonight to go to the store.

Pick-up is no problem when you wind it up but I prefer to drive cool and smooth. The Monsoon sound system cranked with Queen, Greatest Hits CD is unbelievably clear at volume.

Speaking of Monsoon, the weather here has been awfully wet today and discovered that the run-off from the roof drops right on your leg when you open the door. Not so much of a problem if you're quick at getting in and out but for an old fart like me it takes a bit.

Still only four here in BC that I know of and people follow you into parking lots to have a look.

Love it....

Some electrical issue

Let me first just say that I LOVE THIS CAR!!! It is so much fun and I the stares from people are great! Today a Corvette drove by, stopped, and then backed up to take a better look. It was priceless!

I did have an issue this week with the check engine light coming on and then all the guages completely shutting down. Took it into the dealer and they think that a wire was crossed when the Lo-jack was installed (problem started the day after install). So far so good since getting it back Friday. Just hoping that the beautiful fall weather continues here in Denver a little longer.

:agree:

MINE SQUEAKS TOO! Let me know what you find out with your test...

Oh, and the rubber piece inside the door fell off 3 days after arrival of car. I'll have the dealer re-install this week sometime...

Other than these 2 small issues, no clunking, no issues. As ex-Miata Man said, it is actually driving better each mile...

Drove tonight in 50 degree weather with the heat on and the top down - it rocked!
