I have a 2007 gxp. I bought it brand new back in '07 so I am the only owner of this car. A week ago I noticed it was idling VERY rough. I mean the whole car would lurch side to side like it was an old muscle car with a full cam. I got out, opened the hood and started looking around for something obvious and found the fitting for the pcv valve was broke off the intake pipe. Figuring this was the problem, and the fact that it still rode OK at highway speeds, I drove it home and parked it. I came on this forum looking for a solution and found several recommendations for the DDM Works silicone intake tube, so I ordered one. I just installed it and it seems to be a little better, but it still has a very noticeable "shudder". Do I still have a leak a where the pcv valve attaches or is it possibly another problem altogether? Thanks!

I have never been aware of the broken PCV connection to cause any "shuddering" or rough idle. I think you may have another problem, though what it may be, I do not know.

Have you gotten a check engine light?

Yes, the light is on, and no I haven't had it read. I just assumed the problem was the pcv valve. Advance or AutoZone can read that code for me, correct? Are there any specific codes to look out for. I just noticed on a couple other threads talk about injectors and carbon build up, I guess what I'm asking is this: is there a list of codes and most likely causes or each code?

I'm not aware of any list of probable codes, but that doesn't mean that such a list doesn't exist.

Go to an Advance Auto and get the codes read, post them here and there are plenty of guys here who can tell you what the problem most likely is.

Thanks guys, I'll get them read and come back. Duh! I didn't even think of that until I hit the post button. Just frustrated. Had my baby nearly 7 years with no major problems and now I've been without her a week and I'm getting antsy! Thanks again.

There is a list of codes....but not on this forum. GM would have a canary!! There are some 200+ codes for our cars....very specific at that. Get the code, and post it here again, there are many people here that can point you in the right direction to fix it....

Didn't happen to put any [email protected] gas in it lately? Was tempted to get some cheap at a Walmart recently; but resisted went on down the road a Chevron.
DON'T EVER BUY GAS CHEAPLY for premium!! I just bought some at the local national chain gas station and he must be selling 89 as 93!!! Car back fired and burped like crazy till I got some good stuff.

I realize its all speculation until we get some mils, but If your pcv was broken it could have been pulling unmetered air which could cause an issue like rough idle. If it got better great. Also its been 7 years, clean the maf if you haven't. If I am not mistaken the KN filter can skew readings and dirty the maf. Also are your plugs original? GM replaced those plugs with a hotter plug. 41-102 to 41-108. There are threads around with lnf owners stating idle was improved when switching to the hotter plug. Just a couple simple/inexpensive things to consider.

OK, got the codes P0 017 came up twice and P0 011 once. And yeah brap, they are the original plugs, i should probably change them. And I was concerned that unfiltered air could have messed up something.

Ahhh....the camshaft position actuators....

P0017 is the exhaust camshaft position correlation

If you're handyman, you can replace this solenoid yourself. Order the solenoid from your local gm dealer or worthy online retailer(~$70), take off your engine cover and grab a 10mm socket and replace your intake cam actuator. On top of your engine from the same harness as your spark plugs, there are 2 more wire sets running to the int/exh actuators. The int is on the driverside toward the engine front. There is 1 10mm bolt holding it in place, but it may be hard to pull out so give it a slight twist/pull and it'll pop out, then just reconnect your harness. Change your oil, if you are due, replace that actuator(10 min tops) and clear the codes. Interesting thing is, your car may run like crap til your codes are cleared. I went through this on a 2.4l vvt ecotec(le5) and I could clear the code with the engine running and it would run better immediately, but it would come back within a key cycle. After replacing the solenoid it was solved for good. GL

Yes each. Retail at the dealer is higher, but they were always good about getting me a lower price. Just ask, or buy online.

The reason I mentioned changing your oil is because small debris can lead to early failure for the solenoids. Also there is an oring sealing them. Lube it with motor oil and slide it in and careful not to damage the oring or you'll have a small annoying leak. I did this as I wasn't careful enough, but rtv sealed it right up.

Should I bother replacing the actuators or just wait and see if the solenoids fix it?

Can these be cleaned with a spray for sensors ? Thats cheaper then replacing right at the get go . That way if it works your good to go . If it don't work try one at a time.

The things on the top-front of the cam-cover (whatever they are called) are the ones that most often seem to be the issue. Of course, YMMV :)

No Bobby, I don't think cleaning them will work, but maybe it could?
