@BrokeGarageRoadster - Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to your build thread.
One day old and nothing more than parked outside and the included hardware is rusting. No rain, or even wet roads.
Some places can't bother spending the extra 50 cents to include copper hardware
Well aware of that but thanks. It doesn't leak, just cracked so I've let it be. Even when I had the cat off to install the new cat, I looked inside and didn't see a crack, but the soot could have been hiding it. Been eye'ing the Clear Image header for its replacement, but worried about dealing with a broken bolt.Just from that pic you may want to check your exhaust manifold where it merges right before the cat, it may be a trick from the angle but that suspiciously looks like a crack in it right above the o2 sensor near where white oxidization has occured.
This has been on my mind lately Mark. What purpose does the underhood clear plastic film serve? Mine are getting old and building up dirt where they have separated from the paint. They are not attractive and i have been wondering about removing them....I removed the 2nd offending nasty black/brown trunk protector yesterday.nice and clean trunk lid now. someday Ill remove the ones under the hood.I did find out they soften up after a nice long drive, well at least the one on the turbo side did. but still gonna be a bitch to get off. I also put some protectant on the cowel cover, looks much niicer now,not a clue how long it will last. it way some jay leno stuff. also cleaned the windows again.I do like clean windows. also spoted where some effing moron taged the rear bumper with a shopping cart sunday taking off some paint...effing useless [email protected]##@^#*&%U&$#!t people. by where I parked they were aiming for it.
Along those lines when i got to work this morning i popped the hood and was thinking about your post. The engine bay had warmed them and they peeled right off.there were none on my 06 when i got it back in 18,trunk lid looked perfect. the only thing I can think of is gm was thinking they would protect the trunk but did not know if they were needed at all.. but cheeper to put them on than have cars come back for paint& then add the stickers.. whoo knows.
Well once mine were warmed up by a spirited drive they had softened enough be to stretchy...gladd to help!! I wish mine would peal right off, but there not going to. it's gonna be peice work.lots of peices&work.
With a little editing i think this shot should be in thr next Solstice calendar.Snapped this today. The weinermobile was leaving and I was barely able to even get this.
Local grocery store closed 2 stores for 1 bigger one and I guess the weinermobile came, I was driving by and saw it and turned around just to take the pic.

Need to get some adhesive remover to finish cleaning it but it looks better already![]()
Same here.Guys,
I'm feeling a little stupid on this one.
Where is the material under the hood you are talking about.? A photo would be great.
I dealt with the aged and cracked buttress "protectors" last year. Learned how good plastic razor blades work. Someone on the forum had posted about that. Warm sun, gentle and persistent scraping away at the stuff over several days and cleaning the adhesive that stayed finally made them go away. Now looks like the film was never there.
I appreciate a clue on the underhood stuff. Thank you.
Richard
Already took mine off but essentially if you open the hood and are standing on the drivers side and look at the inside edge of the hood just above and along the outside edge of the the headlight you should see some clear-bra type plastic.Guys,
