That is the coupe top ejection module.
Problem is, it only works on the Driver seat!!

I'm with Robssol, something "big brother" uses to keep dibs on yo ass.

I wonder why it's not behind the waterfall like it is on the convertibles. does the coupe have a different reardeck? interesting.

Yes, they have a different rear deck. More to the point is the antenna. The coupe has an XM hump on the roof, but no sharking for onstar. The coupes onstar antenna is on the windshield

USELESS BLACK BOX --- I agree.

 I took mine out and raised the mirror.
So did you just cut the wires? My dealership suggested not to do this as it is integrated into the door locks and other onstar functions.

I'm thinking of the same but relocating the "black box" under the dashboard. I know it won't pick up the GPS signal and probably real poor telephone reception. This shouldn't bother anything as I use the Bluetooth connection to my personal cell phone. I feel onstar is another un-wanted big brother intrusion into my life.

I don't think the antenna is any part of the windshield, such as the black boarder around the perimeter of the window. I do see there is a mounting pad infused into the windshield, but, I am assuming it strictly an attachment point for the black box. Further, I would like to mount another black box of my own making there. My black box needs to see down the road and I have plans of scraping part of the black boarder material away.

Anybody.... Good Idea or Not?

I just disconnected the wires in the header and put it in a plastic bag in a drawer somewhere secret. The mount is attached to the WS, but I cannot remember if you slide (knock) the box L or R to dislodge it. :brentil:

Our Coupe still functions without and has for MANY miles. :driving:

Let me know how removing the windshield black out works.

I look at OnStar as a backup plan.

My car breaks, I use my cell phone.

I have no reception or my batteries are dead, I push the Onstar button and tell them I'd like to sign up for a minimum period. My second call to them (30 secs. later) is to summon a tow truck. Always assuming that when I have no reception, OnStar does.....

Remove the box and you have one less option. I don't find that it bothers me - I usually have a GPS unit hung beside it when travelling anyway, so I'm used to not being able to see high up on the windscreen. Guess that means we'll see the saucers landing a fraction of a second after the convert owners will......
