Mrfred, look at a current thread by Canalsolstice titled "vin 585 thoughts and pics" The pics have the painted wheels (on the Deep car) and , I think the polished (might be chrome) on the two Cools. The pics speak for themselves, in my opinion.

Yes, that was a good idea birdliver..

This link is here..

Specifically..

Also good picture here of some painted wheels on a blue Solstice for sale on E-bay.

I have a good picture of a black one on my desktop, but I don't have the ability to post to the forum, so if you want to see it.. I would need to e-mail it to you.

The chrome and polished are too shiny for my liking, and I feel that they take away from the car itself.

When I built my car I looked at a lot of other cars.

For instance..

This is a picture of a Posrche..

Notice that the wheels don't out-do the car.

It's a balance.

Just my opinion though.

man...

it's night and day between painted and polished. worth the money IMHO.

Accessory wise, you will be able to do so much more to match polished/chrome.

I think the polished are just right. Chrome may be a little too bling-bling...

... I think on certain (darker) colors the polished rims will really contrast well.

From the number of wheels I saw at the Detroit event and Ride and Drive I think the painted rims look the best on the cool Solstice.

I have polished aluminum on my jeep wrangler.

Certain wheel cleaners cause them to get "hazy" looking.

I've never been able to get them back to the nice look they had when they were new.

I guess chrome is the easiest to clean but just had too much shine for me.

So I figured that I could easily keep the painted ones looking good (which I liked anyway)

It also saved me $695.

And if I decide to upgrade or go with aftermarket rims later, I will still own the original rims.

Doing the math.. $0 for painted and you can upgrade them later and end up with 8 rims for $695 or pay $695 now and end up with 4 rims.

With 2 sets of rims, you can swap them out occasionally for a different look.

Silver

Technically, painted silver gives you MORE contrast, since polished and chrome reflect the surroundings. Silver is just silver. Shiny and light reflective, not mirror reflective.

but to each his/her own....

I got Mysterious/painted wheels

Polished wheels look incredible in the sun, especially when you're just cruisin' slowly, the way they turn, they're like jewels in the sun. At night, they just disappear, but whatever, that's the night. Given a choice, I'd go with polished. The Sol wheels are simply and elegantly shaped, I can't see how'd they'd overpower something as nice as a Sol.

Pictures of "painted" wheels on black Solstice

I built my car to match this one, which was for sale on E-bay about a month ago.

I've also posted the example of the front plate (which I feel is a better location).

Saw a Sly Solstice at the dealership were I ordered ours and it had polished wheels. They looked real good on the sly and should look good on a black one.

I went with Chrome wheels, but I was debating with polished. My final decider was that the Chrome wheels would be easier to clean and would contrast well with the 'mysterious' paint scheme.
