The check engine warning light of my 2.4L 2009 Solstice popped up. I took the car to the mechanic and the computer test showed that the catalytic converter is causing this light to pop up.
My mechanic said it is not a serious problem and that I can keep driving the car ten years with no problems at all even without doing anything. He also tried twice to turn off the light (once by resetting the car's computer and once by adding fuel system cleaner and resetting again), but the light returned to light up again after several days.
Now I am a pedant person and do not like to see warning lights in front of my face. I checked this genuine GM part (12597268) and it is very pricey ($842.61 + $80.00 shipping). Another problem is that the place where I live (Israel) does not allow any aftermarket or used car spare parts to enter the country for private importers (Just big companies can import such aftermarket parts). If I go to these big companies to ask them import an aftermarket part for me the price will be more expensive than the genuine part.
Do you guys have any idea what should I do? Should I order the genuine part from GM and say farewell to $1000.00? Should I ignore the warning light and learnn to live with it? Is it possible that there is a way to keep this light off, a way that my mechanic maybe not aware of?!
