I know this is no V8 in the solstice, but are the present owners that have had their cars awhile happy with the performance of this engine?

In other words, does it got decent pick up and smoothness that you might expect from a small car. I didnt buy this car for speed I bought to have fun, but dont get me wrong I will floor it once in a while and drive it like it was a racer especialy around corners. I know one day it will get turbo charged, but I could care less about waiting for that. I have had people say to wait and get the turbo. Had my order in for eight months ago still waiting for the car. I live in the winter belt, even if I ordered 2007 it wouldnt come till late fall next year anyways. I know that more horse power is nice ,but every sports car gets improvements over time I just want one now, dont concern my self with all future improvements they do that to keep it interesting

Well Dave, I have 1k miles ours and it's no Corvette, but it does have good pep and I just love the way it handles. I can't compare it to any other small car because I've never owned another small car like this one......except for my 1965 Corvette and you just can't compare those two.
Where are you in Michigan?

It's got growl!

It has good pep, don't over build it in your head, and you'll likely like it.

It's hard for me, the MSM was soo much faster, I just don't get the close numbers on the 0-60, maybe the engine needs more break in time.

So, it's fun, it gets going good, but you will get beat by a lot of cars.

It's fun fun fun!

I am sure you will have the only solstice on the island
Is it really an island? ...or just an island in our hearts?

I think the reason I started this thread is that someone told me tonight that this engine was the cars down fall, I wanted to hear your opinions cause you solstice owners know more than some hear say. I know its no jet just wanted to hear that its nice and peppy and gets you moving quickly :)

Absolutely NOT the car's downfall. But for those who want to race GTOs and Mustang GTs, you're going to eat dust.

The Solstice has GOOD pick up and go, darts in and out of traffic like a minnow darts around in the lake. The best thing is, where ever you are going to, you get there looking good!

Just NEVER act like you are willing to race off a line, and you won't have to worry about being embarassed. They'll be the dumb ones because they race off and you weren't interested.

Picture the parking lot with a GTO, a Mustang GT, a Miata, a Boxster, a Z4, an S2000, and your Solstice.

Got the picture? Is ANYONE looking at the other cars? :)

Peppy is good way to describe it. Its all a matter of prospective, if the guy who said the engine was the downfall was used to driving V8 sports cars, its small to him. Its just enough to keep you happy and not enough to get in trouble.

The turbo will probably haul a$$ for those that want more speed.

It is pretty good and meets my expectations, but down deep I would love to have another 20hp. I am relatively sure that with aftermarket components I will fill that need without a V8 swap. :yesnod:

IMHO, no matter how much horsepower you have, you always want at least a bit more. It has enough power for most of the situations you find yourself in, and judicious use of the 5-speed many times makes up the difference.

For the market segment this car is in, it has adequate power and handling.

One recent news article characterized it as "peppy"! That works just right for me. ;) It's a good description of what I expect and hope it will be!

Edit: Mceb, Just saw your "peppy" comment above, I guess I'm agreeing that it's a good way to describe it! ;)

There are times when I think my Solstice isn't as quick to respond as my previous Miata, but all in all I think the car handles better and as long as I keep the rpm's in the right range it will pleasantly surprise me. I definitely know my Solstice out performs my 2000 Miata on the turns, no question about it. How it performs as compared to the new Miatas, that I don't know. There is a hill with a nice bend between my office and my house. In my Miata I was able to hit 50 from a rolling start before I got to the bend. I would then have to really back off or I couldn't keep the car on the road. With the Solstice the time to 50 is longer but I can keep the speed up EVEN IN THE TURN without feeling I'm going to become a guard rail decoration. I like my Solstice!!!
