I'm getting a fine layer of black soot on my rear bumper. I can only imagine it's from the exhaust. Can anyone provide some insight as to what could be causing this?

Add a large bottle of Techron to the fuel every oil change. It helps keep the soot down and your engine clean!
Also use CRC cleaner (a spray) in the intake, ahead of the throttle body, every 25-30 K miles
Also, backward airflow can deposit road film all over the back, a lot of cars have some of this effect. Or also could be a diff blowing oil out the vent hole, or leaking out the bottom, have you checked your diff for leaks?
The first mention of soot came in 2006 when the cars initially were delivered. Its endimic in how the motor is supplied fuel. Its not a leak. Its not rich. Its how they run
Might be a cracked CV joint, in which case it should also feel sticky/greasy and you would likely find it on one of your wheels as well.
