I'm getting a fine layer of black soot on my rear bumper. I can only imagine it's from the exhaust. Can anyone provide some insight as to what could be causing this?

Add a large bottle of Techron to the fuel every oil change. It helps keep the soot down and your engine clean!
Also use CRC cleaner (a spray) in the intake, ahead of the throttle body, every 25-30 K miles

Its the direct injection. All DI engines leave soot everywhere! DI causes more issues that what its worth, in my humble opinion.....

LOL
The 2,0 makes huge reliable power for a 2 liter.

Its soot. The engine uses fuel to control combustion chamber temps. So there is going to be soot

My 68 GTO would paint the entire rear end of the car white after the 800 mile run from Ft Ord to Washington to see me now wife. It was lead oxide

No big deal. Just wash it off

The first mention of soot came in 2006 when the cars initially were delivered. Its endimic in how the motor is supplied fuel. Its not a leak. Its not rich. Its how they run
