hey guys! coming up on 100k miles (well just over 95k) , and was wondering what all should be done? my dad was telling me timing belts are normally around 100k, should i replace mine? This is my first car I have owned and I do not know much about cars at all. Is there any other things I should replace, or get looked at, or look at / test myself? Thank you all for the help!

Goodluck changing the timing belt.

The LNF has a timing chain that is good for the life of the motor. However the tensioner could use a looking at. Also look at the accessory/serpentine belt while you are down there.

Coolant flush is another good idea at 100k miles if you have not done so already, along with checking/regapping plugs or replacing/regapping plugs.

Airfilter, use common sense. Blow it out, and if its plugged up, get a new one.

If you have an auto, 100k is a good time to swap out the ATF. That is up to you though because I am not a huge proponent of touching transmissions unless they give me reason to look. Ive seen a few that go downhill after changing the ATF. I am running the OEM fluid in my avalanche and it is over 160k miles with no issues.

thank you for the reply! good to know about the timing chain! when I look at the accessory/serpentine belt, what exactly am i looking for? cracks?tears?rips?

I just bought my GXP at 92k , was really well kept, it looks great! is there anyway I can tell if a coolant flush has been done? when I check the temperature on long trips its never a problem.

stupid question, but when you say checking/regapping plugs, you are talking about spark plugs?

is there a certain plug that you would recommend, also is there a certain air filter that is better than the next?

If it is a 100% stock GXP, use OEM parts. AC delco spark plugs and gap them to OEM specs. Any new filter will work just fine for a stock GXP. Go for whatever brand suits your fancy.

Flush the coolant. Dexcool is 100k/5 yr life. In your case, i would be very surprised if the previous owner did it. Refill with 50/50 DISTILLED water and Dextron coolant. (or just get the premix stuff)

As far as the belt, you are looking for cracks, dry rotting, etc. Just a preventative measure here.

Use the forum search feature to get tips from people who have done this maintenance before.

Goodluck!

No leave the same stock plugs and OEM filter.
